Being a dick and ruining a thread is very unreasonable yes. Going in circles when people have conceded their points and agreed with you is obnoxious. Please go do it somewhere else.

If anything I'm making your thread into something where an actual interesting discussion can happen rather than people vomiting lists of 30 albums that next to nobody is going to pay close attention to. So it's definitely not being ruined.

Now have I been a bit of a prick? Well of course, but that doesn't mean I'm going off-topic lol.

I must have missed the interesting discussion amidst all the pointless arguing. This is my thread, you are taking the discussion away from the topic I had intended. I can edit up the OP with better wording later on, but you're really just taking something that I had admittedly worded poorly and making strawman after strawman argument while I repeatedly asked you to stop because you're just reiterating the same bull****.

People could make this a little more interesting by putting justifications with their albums. What's more boring than lists is pointless arguments like these.

At this point you're keeping the argument going for no reason, if you could just concede that trying to form an objective "quintessential listening" list is a valid topic that other people might be more interested in than you then we could all happily coexist in this thread.

This thread allows for both "objective" quintessential albums and personal ones. We are not specifically striving for either. If you are interpreting it differently you are incorrect as this is my thread and I am quite aware of how I intended it. Hope that clears it up for you.

Great, we arrived to this point a while ago but you just keep babbling about how I'm going off-topic when all I'm trying to do is discuss what's in bold, which according to you is clearly NOT off-topic.

Ok buddy. Now post some albums or don't post at all now that we've come to this conclusion. What a momentous occasion to behold.

I posted my albums already. I'm now interested in people to debate my picks or suggest albums that should be added

Yours is pretty standard, I couldn't see anybody disagreeing with it tbh. All of those are landmark albums that are necessary to understanding music history/evolution.

If it seems like I've stepped back from the argument, that's because I have. Frownland has conceded the point, which I think is quite gracious of him. Further arguing doesn't seem like it's going to achieve anything.

Will do

As it's a great example of the development and even genesis (with a lowercase "g") of progressive rock as well as psychedelic rock and also shows how a really well-recorded and engineered album can stand the test of time.

Born to Run
One of the best "story albums" I've heard, and a finger to the American Dream. Also the album that saved Springsteen (stop booing!)

Charts the excesses of the West Coast sound and one of the first proper crossover albums from Country to Rock to Pop

I'm sure I don't have to explain this one do I?

Bat out of Hell
The album that made Meat Loaf; bombastic to the max and contains the first, I think, single taken from a nine-minute-plus track!

Number of the Beast or Piece of Mind or Powerslave
Take your pick, they're all classic "Golden Age" Maiden albums and allowed metal to cross over a little into the mainstream

Irish Tour 74 by Rory Gallagher
One of THE best live albums ever: Rory is on fire!

Again, just a classic and perfect timing for this album
