Maybe if I do my special dance again I can summon the almighty Batlord to this thread and have him aid me in my quest to hurt the butts of the Ye Olde Hipsterdom.

Turns out though I meet the apparent cutoff that validates my opinion. I'd hate to know what he would've said about me if my playcount was lower like <100 or something

Lucem Ferre 12-08-2015 12:32 AM

Well first off, I don't take anybody's opinion that seriously. I'm not going to cry over somebody not liking an album I like. It won't change my opinion. I'm interested in other opinions and perspectives, and I'd think people would be interested in mine too.

I do think the reasoning behind your statement is retarded. You won't take somebodies list seriously if they put a really good album at number one because you don't think it's number one. So if they put a really ****ty album at number one you'd respect it more because it's not following a trend? Do you hate people that **** in toilets too? Are toilets too mainstream?

Plus, I'm not really too into giving a **** what popular opinion is. I put Kendrick there because I liked that album. Don't really care if everybody loves or hates it, I loved it. But that Tetsuo & Youth, man. That was a great album. Front to back, nothing I ever skip.

Also, why is Frownland even a mod when all he seems to do lately is pick on Yorke Daddy? Is this your avante garde version of moderating?

The Identity Matrix 12-08-2015 12:56 AM

People take things way too seriously here on these forums. Anteater is talking about the casual fan who calls TPAB GOAT because the internet tells them to. Maybe it was put in a way that made it sound like you or others on this forum were the subject of the statement, but I do not think you or anyone else on this forum were the subject of the statement.

I know he wasn't talking about me, I didn't put it at number one, but what he said is just dumb no matter what the intent was. He literally said that he can't take a list seriously for having TPAB at the top because it's too trendy. Even then, how can you decide who's doing it to follow a trend and who genuinely likes it? Maybe the only reason he didn't put TPAB at the top is because he's joining the trend of going against trends intentionally. But deep down it really was his favorite album of the year, he just can't admit because it's too trendy. But Yorke has him beat. Yorke put TPAB to join the trend of going against trends intentionally as he goes against the trend of going against a trend by joining the trend of adding TPAB at the top of the list. That is a hipsterception.

Zhanteimi 12-08-2015 05:40 AM

I feel like this is the first year of my life where I have an informed opinion on music, so my Top 10 for 2015 is:

10. Twerps - Range Anxiety
09. Shamir - Ratchet
08. Passion Pit - Kindred
07. Father John Misty - I Love You, Honeybear
06. Dan Deacon - Gliss Riffer
05. Pond - Man It Feels Like Space Again
04. Of Monsters and Men - Beneath the Skin
03. Ezra Furman - Perpetual Motion People
02. Purity Ring - Another Eternity
01. Marina and the Diamonds - Froot

I'd also like to add my Biggest Disappointments of 2015:

03. of Montreal - Aureate Gloom
02. Mumford & Sons - Wilder Mind
01. Sun Kil Moon - Universal Themes

Yawn...you guys weren't even the subject of the statement. I've seen dozens of lists across the Internet already that have TPAB at #1 for reasons that have nothing to do with the adventurous musical side of it. There was nothing dumb about what I said: I question any list that puts an album like that at number one for reasons I have already mentioned. I didn't embellish my original statement to protect the feelings of every little pretty princess that could be butthurt, but The Identity Matrix got it and he saw me posting for the first time like two days ago. What does that say about the rest of you?

YorkeDaddy 12-08-2015 08:51 AM

Obviously Lucem and I just don't quite meet up to the mighty Anteater's lofty intellectual standards

Ninetales 12-08-2015 09:12 AM

I honestly haven't listened to many 2015 albums the last half of this year so I'm behind as hell but this is maybe 10 albums I've really liked a lot in no real order

The Ark Work by Liturgy
Just for a Thrill by Fabio Orsi
Folk by Nick Hoppner
Dumb Flesh by Blanck Mass
Olympic Mess by Helm
EMOTION by Carly Rae Jepsen
All Fours by Bosse de Nage
Imagine the Future by ASC
Umbras de Barbagia by Downfall of Nur
Today, I Wrote Nothing by Billy Woods

throw some recs if you wish. A few hip hop albums that just slipped out of this 10, but wouldn't mind hearing what else the genre has to offer from this year.

You are awfully hard on yourself considering I didn't say anything at all in regards to anyone's intelligence. The music people gravitate to can indicate all kinds of things, but intelligence isn't one of them.

Sarcasm aside, do you think My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy was the best album of 2010? Or do you think there was something more cultural at work by tastemakers to sway people into having that opinion?

I think it's easily in my top 5 from that year, it's a superb album.

14232949 12-08-2015 12:03 PM

I think it was easily the best album of that year

1. Kanye West - My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
2. Mew - Eggs Are Funny
3. The National - High Violet
4. Snowing - I Could Do Whatever I Wanted If I Wanted
5. The Tallest Man on Earth - The Wild Hunt

imo

I don't think it's outwith the realms of possibility or indicative of a grand conspiracy that people and publications share the same AOTY.

Trollheart 12-08-2015 12:05 PM

Yorke, Ant is about the least elitist person I can think of, but apart from that, you're falling into the trap I did in 2008 that led to my leaving the site in a huff over people's elitist opinions. The point is, it does not matter. I hate Frownland's music, he hates mine and seldom if ever the twain shall meet. That doesn't mean we don't have respect for each other. I think he's an elitist, pretentious git and he thinks my music taste is up my arse. We both accept that, and continue to listen to the music we enjoy. Why let anyone tell you what you should listen to? Only you can prevent forest fires, I mean, decide what music you should or do listen to and enjoy. The fact that others may not like that music doesn't invalidate it.

You need to develop a thicker skin, mate, and not take everything so personally. I learned that lesson. Didn't stop me from being a whiny little bitch every so often, but not all the time at least.

YorkeDaddy 12-08-2015 12:09 PM

The least elitist person you can think of says things like "but I still wouldn't take any list seriously that puts Kendrick Lamar's To Pimp A Butterfly at #1"? Man, you need to meet some genuinely not-elitist people.

I know him better than you. I've had conversations with him, read his writings, and I know he's not elitist. He's entitled to his views, same as you are to yours. It shouldn't change what you listen to. Everyone here hates Bon Jovi and Marillion: do I say they're elitist for that? Does it matter a **** to me? Do I stop listening to those bands or cry and grind my teeth in a corner in my bedroom? Well, I probably do the last, but that's for different reasons. ;)

Seriously, Ant's good people but if you're not going to get on with him you're not going to get on with him; don't be throwing insults around though just because you don't agree with his point of view, is what I'm saying. If we all did that, I'd be calling Frown all sorts of names and he'd be throwing them back at me. Or banning me, with his new superpowers as a mod.

I'm just saying don't make such a big deal out of it. You're not going to change his opinion nor he yours, so why not just agree to disagree and move on? You're kind of souring the air with all this antagonism you're displaying, and unfortunately, knowing you the little I do, you'll soon start turning that on others who agree with him or try to defend or support him (it's kind of happening already with me, yeah?) and end up in a major ****storm, which could easily end with your being banned. So maybe just cool down and let it be, huh?

Do you want me to go add "arbitrary" to my original post so you can stop whining like a butthurt little girl?

Plainview 12-08-2015 12:46 PM

Don't get the all the praise for MBDTF. I mean it's fine, it's decent, but nothing more. Much prefer 808s or Yeezus.

1. Sufjan Stevens - The Age of Adz
2. Flying Lotus - Cosmogramma
3. Lloyd Miller & The Heliocentrics - OST
4. Adam Lane's Full Throttle Orchestra - Ashcan Rantings
5. Joanna Newsom - Have One on Me
6. Emeralds - Does It Look Like I'm Here?
7. Daughters - Daughters
8. Tonbruket - Dan Berglund's Tonbruket
9. Big Blood - Dark Country Magic
10. Max Richter - Infra

Yeah, I don't particularly care what you think of him. Or me, for that matter. I just wish you'd stop fighting with people and turning threads into ****storms, or potential ones. I thought you were past all this?

Anyway, like I say, do whatever you like. I just know I learned to become a duck and let it roll off my back. Life's so much easier that way.

Well when people say stupid **** or lump entire fanbases together or say they're going to disregard someone's opinion based on placement of an album on a year-end list I'm gonna call them out, so I guess I'm not "past" that nor do I intend to get "past" it. You still have a tendency to overreact and start **** too so hop off my back please

And Plainview was giving his opinion on 2010 because Anteater brought up 2010 since he believes MBDTF is comparable to TPAB in that he thinks neither are as good as people say

Anyway I've decided now that my top 10 list is something like

1. Kendrick Lamar - To Pimp a Butterfly
2. Sufjan Stevens - Carrie & Lowell
3. Oneohtrix Point Never - Garden of Delete
(unordered from this point on)
Grimes - Art Angels
Lanterns on the Lake - Beings
Chelsea Wolfe - Abyss
Deafheaven - New Bermuda
Vince Staples - Summertime '06
The Pop Group - Citizen Zombie
Mercury Rev - The Light In You (my favorite of theirs since Deserter's Songs)

I love Every Open Eye by Chvrches but I think it just misses the cut :(

Pleasantly surprised to see this get a mention, and I agree. I've been following these and associated acts for a while but imo their first album was shit. Probably would make my top 10 for this year but I haven't listened to that much stuff.

Compton would be on it also.

See? Told you you'd start turning on me. Ah, do what you like man, but try to grow up a little when you simmer down. You can't keep calling people out when your opinion clashes with theirs. Yes, I get upset from time to time but I always recognise that I have done so, that it was probably a stupid thing to do and try not to react so hotly the next time. Seems you don't do the same, as you're still getting threatened with bans. But whatever: you be you and I'll be me, and we'll see who gets to Heaven first.

Whaddya mean, it doesn't exist? Well, if I'd known that....

Exo 12-08-2015 01:58 PM

I can't do a top ten. These are just the albums that highlighted the year for me. No order is necessary.

Creepoid - Cemetery Highrise Slum
Courtney Barnett - Sometimes I sit and think, and sometimes I just sit
L'Orange & Jeremiah Jae - - The Night Took Us in Like Family
Swans - The Gate
Earl Sweatshirt - I Don't Like ****, I Don't Go Outside
Meat Wave - Delusion Moon
The World is a Beautiful Place, and I Am No Longer Afraid to Die - Harmlessness
Ought - Sun Coming Down
Kamasi Washington - The Epic
Destroyer - Poison Season
Chelsea Wolfe - Abyss
Protomartyr - The Agent Intellect
Hiatus Kaiyote - Choose Your Weapon
Sunflower Bean - Show Me Your Seven Secrets
Frog - Kind of Blah
Delta Sleep - Twin Galaxies
Girls Names - Arms Around a Vision

Frownland 12-08-2015 02:56 PM

^Forgot about L'Orange's output this year. I'm more fond of Time? Astonishing! With Kool Keith than the Jeremiah Jae one, mainly because of the production.
