By saying a genre is liquid, means that the genre is changing, or able to be changed. That is simply not the case. What you are probably meaning is bands and artists can be liquid with their music. Which yes.... I agree with that. No one said Gorguts couldn't go and make a psych rock record. Genres are meant for categorization and recommendations, they are not guidelines.

Appreciate the sentiment, but I can't figure out why a guy who adamantly believes that music is set-in-stone and that there is no fluidity,
then states that he thinks that the idea of set-in-stone is asinine.

Genres DO change! How do you think we get break-offs from them?
Also, the point (yet again!) is that Kiiii shouldn't have to add genres if he doesn't want to,
so stating that record is {blank -just one} genre is often meaningless.
Plus, people will give him crap over it if "he gets it wrong."

EDIT: forget it. I'm done.

I'm sorry. I shouldn't have pushed it this far. I apologize to Kiii for ****ing up his thread. I apologize to rostasi for letting my emotions get in front of my debate skills (or lack there of)

Just move along....

I second this. Continue!

Also you don't have to continue today. Take a little break and come back to the thread later on. You did post like five or six albums back to back right away.

Everything's cool. I'm reminded every day - multiple times - that musical genres are always in flux. It goes both ways:
multiple genres within a single tune and/or genres in flux that sometimes don't take new names.
Rap music now is not the same rap music of the '70s - even if an artist still wants to call it that today or if (s)he calls it by some slight variation.
