Jazz like I always expect, sounds totally chaotic (of course it isn't, I understand that, but this is how it comes across to me) - drums seem to be doing what they like, the horn is good but annoyingly loud and overbearing. Piano is nice when it comes in but generally speaking it's not the sort of thing I enjoy. Kind of expected that anyway.

The way I've been listening to free jazz at this point of being a jazz noob and someone with not the greatest attention span in the first place is that I take the thing in as a monolithic assault on the senses, much the same way I do harsh noise. It might be a severe disservice to the music, but **** it I enjoy it as a background cacophony and maybe that approach might make it less unapproachable for you too. If you can't get it with active listening, then try not actively listening to it.

For the genre of folk, I'd like to submit a track. Note that while the band usually does folk metal, this track is from an album where they've stripped the metal part of the equation out entirely (the second such album from this band, I believe).

Folk music is many things, and this is very, very far away from Joni Mitchell and Mellow Candle.

The band is Swiss and if I'm not mistaken, they're singing in Helvetian, which is close to, or the same as Gaulish.

Meh, that was all right I guess. Maybe more in the line of commercial folk, or pop folk or something, like Switzerland's answer to The Corrs? Perish the thought! But it was okay.

Yeah. Problem there is, I don't like monolithic assaults on the senses, noise rock, harsh noise or anything of the kind. You're a Merzbow fan, I'm not, so that approach would definitely not work for me. I just simply don't like it. I'd rather listen to two cats fighting out in the street.

Got one for you. Call it electronic avant-garde circa 1970

Definitely wouldn't call myself a Merzbow fan, but that's probably because I haven't listened much to him since before I actually started liking some harsh noise.

I'll go with you. What could possibly go wrong.

Just tell the Jews I'm American and the Muslims I'm Canadian.

You listen to Merzbow, you're a Merzbow fan. You also kept spamming the "Name That Tune" section with one of his songs. I know it was only for the lulz, but the fact that you knew which one to post speaks volumes.

1. I almost never listen to Merzbow. Whenever I do listen to harsh noise it's generally The Rita.

2. Merzbow is the go-to for unlistenable ****, and that particular track is the go-to Merzbow track for whatever reason, so it's just the one I got used to posting. I'm not even sure if I've ever listened to that album in full.
