I'm a "non-ironic" fan of 80s hair metal - so I've never quite bought into Steel Panther. The whole 'wink wink we're actually serious musicians' aspect is what ruins Steel Panther for me. It's too slick, too professional. They want to be taken seriously as a band while at the same time saying it's all a parody. They started as a live comedy/metal show on the Strip and called themselves "Metal Skool." They were playing for YEARS before making any albums as "Steel Panther." They'd play every Monday night at one of the famed clubs on Sunset and people like Vince Neil or P!nk would come up and sing with them. It just got bigger and bigger. Then the albums and tours came. But this has always been satire of the R and X-rated side of the 80's metal world. A "PG" version of it isn't the same. Spinal Tap is Spinal Tap. This ain't that. What do you think?

Could you try and respond to what people are actually saying for once? You should change your username to non sequitur.

Yeah, I mentioned Weezer like 30 times in this thread and he just ignores it. Then again, I have an obnoxious habit of never shutting the **** up about Weezer, so perhaps he's justified.

To be fair, most people will do what they can to avoid Weezer.

Seriously though, are they even really connected to grunge? I guess they are by virtue of being one of these bands of people who can't shred and wear wigs like all the talented musicians do.
Weezer is part of the problem! They're the reason there's no good music anywhere at all anymore!

i'll respect Weezer first two albums for being important, and their debut was actually kinda good, but after that they can **** off.

No, Weezer doesn't have big connections to grunge besides the fact that Nirvana was an influence. No, the reason I keep mentioning them is because OP keeps saying that melodic rock bands and less depressing "fun time" rock bands weren't pushed after 1993. Weezer is clear proof that he's wrong, though Pinkerton is a pretty depressing album to be fair. I also mentioned Green Day several times to try to get him to admit his narrative that melodic rock bands weren't pushed after a certain period is complete bull****. But he hasn't responded yet.

And **** you. The Blue Album, Pinkerton, and The White Album are all masterpieces, and Green, Maladroit, and Everything Will Be Alright In The End are also great.

Not actually **** you though. I still think you're a pretty cool guy. But you're wrong about Weezer. Ratitude was a terrible album, I'll admit.

Also, Rivers definitely could shred. Listen to Tired Of Sex or Only In Dreams if you don't believe me. Or check out his first band, Avant Garde. He was a metal guitarist before Weezer existed.

These last two posts are directed @MicShazaam btw

I'm just playing around. I don't even remember how Weezer sounds, tbh. They're one of those bands that get mentioned all sorts of places but that I never really checked out in depth.

I don't so much mind Weezer, they aren't as over rated as Nirvana, Tool, or Kanye West. But i am a metalhead dude. Weezer and Green Day are just not my thing.
