I'm also not afraid to admit that some of my priming to like classical comes from computer games. I discovered recently when I got a Mussorgsky CD that Dungeon Master II rips off more than one of his "Pictures at an Exhibition" compositions. And I always said that that game had an awesome soundtrack.

Elite 3 also had a whole bunch of classical pieces and I played that game for huge amounts of time. It had Hall of the Mountain King, Baba Yaga and all sorts of other pieces. Of course in not so glorious MIDI format, but oh well. The stupid kid version of me got a bit of culture with his gaming in that way.

Not to forget Realms of Arkania 3. The piece that plays in the town is great and I have to try and find out what kind of classical it falls under. I'd love to get more in that style.

You've seen Apocalypse Now?
You know "Ride of the Valkyries".
You've played computer games?
You'll have heard "Mars"
You've seen films about Napoleon?
You've heard "1812 Overture".

These aren't pieces you hear once and forget.

Knowing what you're talking about when you derp about how boring classical music is?

I don't really see myself as a classical listening kind of person. Same with country. That's just the way it is.
This is why I told you to ignore the crap that your grandma listened to to feel classy. Your perceptions aren't really in line with what the genre actually has to offer.

This is actually how most people hear of classical music. I know I heard all the pieces I ended up liking through films, TV ads, TV shows, and so forth. Then I bought classical compilations and kind of went from there. Seems to me it's such a huge genre and so varied that it would be hard not to find something you liked there, especially when you consider that all modern music is founded on the principles of classical anyway.

I legit have no idea what any of those sounds like.I'm sure if I heard em I'd recognise it but I couldn't tell you right now what any of them sounded like.

I guarantee you know them. I stake my first born child ... oh. Wait. Well, I'll buy you a burger if I'm wrong. It might taste a little cold and rubbery after so long in the jiffy bag, but I'll make sure it gets to you. Ketchup will of course follow in a separate bag. Sorry but I'll have to send it COD.

I've liked classical music a lot in movies, but it wasn't until I saw Dinner With Andre that I finally got off my lazy ass and looked up what piece it was that played during the credits. I think that was actually what got the snowball rolling for me.
