So I voted 1. I'm still exploring, but right now, I feel like the positives vastly outweigh the negatives.

With more knowledge, I'm sure I could bitch a little about some very specific eras or composition formats. I'm usually very fond of bitching about things.

@TH Sorry. The lock was left unlocked. That's your fault.

Not when there's a perfectly good whiner to talk down to.

Classical listeners who seem to believe nothing good has been written in over 100 years and are extremely vocal about it = the most annoying part of being a classical fan.

As for the genre itself, nothing: just requires patience.

You would think those people would at least like some modern classical - but it doesn't really surprise me that people like this exist.

There's some modern classical like Schoenberg and Stravinsky that I adore, and there are moments in operas, especially Wagner, where I just get swept away. And if someone said Bach's Mass in B Minor is the best piece of music ever written, I couldn't fault him for having that opinion. But by and large, most music from the Classical, Baroque, or Romantic periods leaves me completely neutral. It's pleasant, but it's not something I repeatedly seek out. It is so much the background fabric of Western culture that it has become restaurant music.
