That's when you become a leader and create a following of weirdos. Also who the **** ever liked the music at high school parties? That's not why you were there.

Seriously though, if you talk about socialism and the working class, well hi ho here's music made by the working class expressing a basic desire to not be poor and you denigrate it because it doesn't live up to your expectations of what you support as a snob. It might not be self-aware music at times but it's an honest expression of dissatisfaction with how society has treated them and it's still important if nothing else but as a document of a social group's feelings.

This doesn't make you sound any less hopelessly white.

Bruh the marketing wouldn't work if it didn't speak to them. And much of this music isn't major label. It's self-made. And the major labels didn't just invent this trope, it was invented by the artists themselves and picked up on because it spoke to their audience. Guess what, poor people want stuff. They want things like food and housing but they also want ALL the things that they are denied such as good food and good housing and this is expressed often through ****ty trap music. Perhaps you should consider opening your mind to the working class if you're going to fight for them. Or, you know, just become a Chula-esque neoliberal like we're all predicting.

my guess is the majority of the population does not care that much about music though, in the same way I don't care too much about film and as such will consume whatever superhero garbage is coming next
It's not about them caring about music it's about them responding to music that speaks to them.

Weird comment(s). Wanting to go from working/under-class to rich isn't an exclusively socialist idea, and the way they express that vision in the music is through a glorification of capitalism.

Yes but I'm talking specifically to elphenor, an out and proud socialist. I'm not trying to paint this kind of hip hop as politically aware, just as an expression of the feelings and desires of a significant portion of a population.
