No. Ask anyone who isn't into it, knows nothing about it. It's very definitely the popular, mainstream, basic image it projects. You just don't want to see it, and that's fine. But I'm not wrong.

I never claimed I did. In the last year or two I've listened to more than I have in the preceding forty-odd, but I'm still not in a rush to experience more.

You're not so much actively racist as just cringe-inducingly problematic but you absolutely refuse to see it and that makes it worse.

And you're still not black. Sorry man.

You’re very wrong. Some of the most forward-thinking people I know are not fans of hip-hop music, but they would never ever describe the genre as a whole in the way you did in the opening post

You don't have to know about something to tell people about it. You can see it on TV, yeah? It's the perception that colours the view of many people. Goebbels would tell you: it's all about how you send the message.

And tons of people I know, who are also intelligent people, would say the opposite to you and agree with me. Everyone doesn't think the same. Anyway, I care not: agree to disagree. It's all supposed to be in fun, as I said in the original thread. Don't lose your rag over it. Not worth it.

Yes, you have to know about something to tell people about it TH. If you do know something about it, then you can't know nothing about it, even if that something is a vague idea from pop culture.

Jeez. Obviously I meant have any more than a surface knowledge of it. Want to split some more hairs? You know what I meant. Shall we say, a TH level knowledge of hip-hop? Does that sound better?

Hey Bat, I'm not sure you're the right messenger. I mean how many times have you used the N word here and, of course, there was the infamous Hitler avatar. In other words, people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

I do agree his OP was a bit cringe worthy though.

I've had many Hitler avatars, the difference is that I'm self-aware and TH isn't and that's a big difference.

Would they happen to be over 40 years old and white?

You’re just never going to get it, so like I said on page 1 all of this racism will die with the older generations and the world will slowly improve

Don't be so sure, Yorke. My generation and the generation before that said the same thing. Don't be surprised when the bulk of your generation turn reactionary too. It's been going on since the beginning of time.

Uhhh your generation and the generation before that had ****ing segregated water fountains

My generation is welcoming all races, expanding the notion of gender identity, supporting people that want to be trans, etc

Pretty big differences I can point out in two seconds

Frownland 07-19-2018 04:10 PM

"Slowly improve."

You don't have to blurt out the most obvious point in every discussion, you know.

It's anecdotal, of course, but I work at a school. I see kids playing together and also the older kids hanging out, seemingly across all races and cultural backgrounds. White kids, black kids, middle eastern - all treating each other as equals instead of running with their "own kind".

Um, excuse me but segregated water fountains were gone by my generation. It was the generation before mine that had them eliminated. And guess what? We were young once. We were idealistic (I'd like to think I still am- you know, like Bernie Sanders but you probably think he's a bigot too). Something happened to the majority of my generation just like it will happen to yours. It might even happen to you. Check these words twenty years from now if this forum still exists. People become more conservative as they get older. It's a fatal flaw in humankind I'm sorry to say.

Anyway, I'm off to bed. I love your idealism, Yorke, I really do. But condemning everyone for being older than you isn't going to solve the world's problems. Voting and making your voice heard will. See ya :)

Frownland 07-19-2018 04:23 PM

Take note, YorkeDaddy! You're gonna be a racist too!

Well you obviously hate everyone who's reasonable if you're one to criticize implicit racism. Be careful man, I can smell that racism that's creeping into you.

People in their forties like myself were in their teens and twenties during the heyday of De La Soul, Tribe Called Quest, Digable Planets, Public Enemy, DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince, MC Hammer, etc. Most of us are well aware that hip hop isn’t all about violence and crime.

Mindfulness 07-19-2018 04:36 PM

new artists getting signed to major labels that have no talent and glorify drugs, that is completely what sucks about hiphop right now

Well, he is over 40 so you must not. And I do like him as well as Elizabeth Warren and I really hope she runs in 2020.

See, that's what I mean, Yorke. You don't know me. I'm actually pretty much a lefty. I've toned it down some as I've gotten older but the idealism still burns.

Anyhow, this is supposed to be a thread about hip-hop so I'll take my leave. Keep fighting the good fight. :)

Compared to thirty years ago, yeah, they are. It's pretty bad when they're trying to get the Reagan vote. Fingers crossed the Progressives will take back the party or we'll all have to switch to the Greens.

If you support Elizabeth Warren's politics, you are a conservative.
