Default What Sucks About This Genre: Synthpop Edition

A genre I used to hate because it "wasn't rock" and "synthesisers aren't real instruments". Listening to quite a lot of it now, as it happens.

I'm not entirely sure about how much of my music falls under this genre, but some of it must be synth pop. At least Depeche Mode are for sure.

I guess some of the bands go for that cold and sterile feel to the point of them just being kind of lacking in energy, but I don't really have any beef with the genre. Need to listen to more, probably.

And Depeche Mode are awesome.

Low suckage.

One of the saddest developments in music is the steep decline in quality Chvrches’ music has taken

From a 9/10 debut to a 6/10 follow up to a 3/10 third effort

Yeah I loved it, genuinely a top 30 or so ever from me

Their 2018 album on the other hand might be the biggest stinker of the year that I’ve heard, utterly terrible outside of a track or two

My number one album of 2016 was a straight up synth pop record, so when its good its reallllly good.
