Default Rogue MB Classics: Metal Machine Music

Talkin' 'bout Lou Reed's seminal masterpiece. Rate, discuss, or throw in the trash, as applicable.

I think it's really beautiful and gives you a world of noise to get swallowed in. Many artists have tried but frankly this is inimitable and some next level ****. 10/10

One of those albums where I can't help but wonder if people pretend to like it just to sucker people into taking a listen. The good news (or?*) is it's far from the unlistenable mess that the mainstream music press at the time made it out to be. They just didn't know what they were listening to.

*I was frankly very disappointed that it wasn't anywhere near as grating and noisy as it's reputation suggests.

I just wasted an hour of my life listening to this for the first time w/out hitting pause. Got 40 minutes in before I started to tire of it. It's loud and noisy, sure, but it didn't trip my annoyance trigger as much as I was expecting. To get the full potential of MMM, I would need a cathode ray tube TV set to static in a dark room that I can stare directly into and a window view of a sunny beach that I can't reach as I space out to a lot of hallucinogens. Clearly a troll album to **** with people. A solid 2/10.

The closing loop because it's heavy.

It was a number two from Lou but it will always be a one to me.
