What Sucks About This Artist: Eric Clapton Edition

Everyone keeps saying this forum is dying/dead, and we all know what the lifeblood of forums is, don't we? What? No don't be silly - debate and conversation! As if! No no no! The true lifeblood of music forums is spitefully tearing into each other's favourite bands of course!

Our newest member did a great job getting us all at each other's throats with the Pink Floyd thread, so here's one just for her! :D

So why does "God" suck? Discuss.

Do we have any foreigners in the audience tonight? If so, please put up your hands… So where are you? Well wherever you all are, I think you should all just leave. Not just leave the hall, leave our country … I don’t want you here, in the room or in my country. Listen to me, man! I think we should send them all back. Stop Britain from becoming a black colony. Get the foreigners out. Get the wogs out. Get the coons out. Keep Britain white …
Eric Clapton everybody.

What's the difference between a baby and a bag of cocaine?

Spoiler for .:
Eric Clapton wouldn't let a bag of cocaine fall out of the window

The only way this thread could get worse, it's by changing its name to: What sucks about this artist: The Beatles Edition
By the way, just in case you think that I opened the Pink Floyd thread, I didn't, it had been there for ages, and I posted a reply to defend my 2nd or 3rd favourite band!

OK, I'm not going to start discussing about his personality. Besides that, he was a miserable for seducing Harrison's wife. Apart from being a drug addict, he had a severe addiction to chocolate lol
I'm trying to pretend this thread doesn't exist but I come back to it every half-minute. I guess it's just too hard for me...

That’s ****ing sad.

I never got into Eric Clapton apart from Disraeli Gears (which I mostly like for the drums anyway) so good to know I haven't missed anything. Yikes.

Layla And Other Assorted Love Songs is a great album imo. Wheels Of Fire's a good one, too.

Yeah, even a 100 times more sad than when Pink Floyd released The Endless River.

I saw Eric in '85 at Summerfest in Milwaukee, and he was extremely intoxicated.

I was all like:

A few days later I saw Yngwie Malmsteen and Talas with Billy Sheehan at the same venue.

At least Clapton was better than Page in the ARMS Charity Concert in 1983. Page seemed like he didn't know what the hell was he doing. Like in Led Zeppelin's Live Aid performance, but even worse than that.

It means despite being a drug addled alcoholic racist baby killer, Eric did a good by not being as terrible as someone else.

Yeah, but Clapton wasn't playing well and Page...I doubt if he really knew he was on stage.

Plankton 01-14-2021 01:18 PM

I don't know where I'm at half the time either.

lol

I've seen those before. I just don't pay attention to a lot of the live Page/Clapton stuff. Jeff Beck otoh is another story. I've seen him live a few times and each time was better than the last. He's a much truer to the art kind of musician. Watch any of his live concerts. He's a well oiled machine. Pun intended.

Wow. I hadn't heard about this. Just listened to a snippet of the song and it's lousy. (And to think I posted a Van Morrison tune on the "Feel Good" songs thread while my daughter was recovering from Covid. I actually had her struggle and the pandemic in mind when I posted the song - ugh. :()

Cool clips

Stairway would’ve been twice as interesting if Jeff Beck and Clapton were out there harmonizing with him right from the get-go. It shows how bloated Page’s ego is that he has those two at his disposal and doesn’t bring them out until the end. I also think Page kind of blew the solo on Layla. It even looked like Beck looks at him sideways for just a split second before saving the day.

I think both Page and Clapton had a big ego. Beck seemed more easy to work with.

Ah hawuld yer whisht, as we say here in Ireland. It's all in fun. When you let slip that you were a Clapton fangirl, my destiny was clear... you'll note that I also made one for my own favourite band, so that there can be no accusations of bias.

I listen to Disraeli Gears dozens of times. It's one of the first albums I owned. I also like Derek & the Dominos and Blind Faith. They are worth checking out imho.

I don't care for the "Beano" album I think it's over-hyped. But I like other John Mayall albums -- so go figure. Talking about John Mayall, I think Peter Green and Mick Taylor are just as good or even better guitar players than EC. But most Boomers just rave about Beano ... but no.

I don't think it's worth hating on E.C. cause he did contributed some good stuff with Cream, Blind Faith, and Derek & the Dominos, a one off performance with The Dirty Mac and song colab with The Beatles.

Yeah, c'mon from the beginning I thought it was fun, even if it had been about why The Beatles (my favourite band) suck I wouldn't be angry. The difference is that, as you said, I'm a Clapton fangirl (and a huge one), so I was just pretending that I was upset ( I would have done the same if you had opened a "What sucks about Robert Plant" thread).

Derek And The Dominos were great, just one album, but what a great quality!
Peter Green...ok, I like him, I listen to "Green's era" Fleetwood Mac, but I wouldn't say he was better than Clapton, although I think they're at the same level and comparable. And Mick Taylor...I mean, the guy from The Rolling Stones...You've probably already read what I think about them in the "What sucks about The Rolling Stones" thread...
While My Guitar Gently Weeps is such a good song! The Beatles + Eric Clapton, I almost cried with joy when I read about it.
