10cc Appreciation Thread

One of THE great UK bands ... but how were they received across the globe ? Their "How Dare You" album still blows me away 30 years down the line. Anyone else ??

I love this band. "Rubber Bullets", "Wall Street Shuffle" and the great "Fresh Air for My Mama". They were wacky-brilliant.

I listened to that album and thought they ripped off about 16 bands throughout, so I wasn't impressed by what I heard (compared to how original or great I had been told they were). However the 1980 album was really good. I am going to explore their other stuff first.

By the time they did this album they were just a duo of Graham Gouldman and Eric Stewart + studio musician. What you want to are albums when they also had Creme and Godley, starting with S/T and up to "How Dare You". This quartet loved Beach Boy harmonies, but were also highly influenced by Frank Zappa and did great parodies, or in their case, homages to music that influenced them.

5) Bloody Tourists
6) Deceptive Bends
7) Live Let Live
8) ... the rest (latter albums)

tho' if you can find the FULL King Biscuit recordings from the 73 US tour that's a worthwhile discovery

Caught this absolute banger at the end of a show I was watching. This is the first thing I've heard from 10cc. Anything else you'd recommend?

^ huh? I find you incredulous. That's like you saying you studied American History at Harvard and never heard of Benjamin Franklin before until you saw a PBS special about him and thought he was "banging."

99% of the songs 10cc wrote were silly, tongue-in-cheek songs. But the one song that garnered them posterity in the US ironically was a serious anti-love song. It has one of the most incredible backing vocal tracks ever recorded.
