I actually agree that certain screamo bands border on grindcore, a prime example being orchid.

xcassiusx 12-08-2007 11:11 AM

Yeah. I sometimes call certain bands having grind-ish influences and elements, but in an overall general statement, I wouldnt even say grindcore and screamo are similar.

But a few prime examples are Orchid, Bucket Full Of Teeth, Phoenix Bodies, and A Fine Boat, That Coffin!

But the latest wave of screamo has influences from nearly anything. We're living in a current state where you can mix practically anything in and still be screamo. Look at the past 4 or so years of the genre (various bands fusing in elements of post-rock, grind, hardcore/punk, jazz, metalcore, electronics, etc. etc.)

Thank-you, this is a very nice article!

patncwarinthn 05-31-2008 09:14 PM

I almost can't agree that screamo exists.

It usually falls into a diffrent catagory most of the time.

wat

patncwarinthn 06-07-2008 02:28 PM

Yeah my personal opinion is I just classifie them as rock unless it serious cut you wrists and drink the blood type Emo.

But even then I classifie it as Emo and not screamo. I mean u can't say something is diffrent just because they screamed in one or too of the songs right?

Alfred 06-07-2008 06:57 PM

Did you read the thread?

wtf are you talking about?
Read the education thread....Please, save yourself.

patncwarinthn 06-12-2008 04:37 PM

Its an opinion dude. U dont need education to voice an opinion.

And trust me im all over that thread.

Honestly I think people classify something as emo or screamo because of the lyrics. And thats wrong. And im srry if a rapper started rapping about his tractor does that make it country?

So there you go ... I think this thread is wrong in the first place.

I remember when Story of the year was Screamo. But there not. There pop rock.

You're right, but you need education to voice an opinion that doesn't make you look like an idiot.

Not Emo or Screamo dude.

Alfred 06-14-2008 08:55 PM

Story Of The Year was post-hardcore at best. Or are you one of those people who thinks that screamo is any music with screaming? In that case, you'd be wrong because many bands who have nothing to do with screamo or hardcore use screaming. The crunk rock family force 5 has used it, nu-metal bands like Slipknot have used it, and grindcore bands like Anal C*** pretty much base their music off of it.

that's not a good enough answer, tell me what the hell emo or screamo is then if you want to challenge the definition of the entire emo forum.

patncwarinthn 06-16-2008 08:34 PM

Dude im trying to say that Emo and Screamo don't exist.

I feel like people say bands are Emo or Screamo because of lyrics. When pop rock, or post punk, or something in that area are usually what they should be classified as.

yes... but aside from all the bull**** pop, there ARE genres called emo or screamo, that have nothing to do with all of that

uh...of course it exists...That's like saying Rock N' Roll doesn't exist. Each genre forms from another one with a special and unique twist, saying a genre doesn't exist when it's widely accepted as a genre is just plan wrong.

Lyrics play a minimal role in defining genre.....and pop rock? I think alot of bands would be pissed to hear that they should be catagorized as pop punk..

DumpsterDiver 12-11-2008 10:32 PM

if you want the best example of screamo, just listen to underoath

alliteration 12-12-2008 07:23 AM

I hope this is a fake account. Otherwise, you are a complete annoyance. you come into every single thread jocking the **** out of the latest Solid State garbage band. Shut up.

xcassiusx 12-15-2008 09:03 PM

Well written article though.

The Locust's music is emotional, its just expressed in a weird way. Not "emo" or "screamo" though.

Either way, The Locust kicks more arse then an arse kicker.

bardonodude 12-18-2008 10:57 PM

I think the Locust draws more influence from powerviolence, their screams are original and passionate though

Does anybody know where I can find lyrics to any Closure songs?

I figured if I could find Anasarca lyrics, I'd be able to find some Closure lyrics, but so far no luck : (

bardonodude 02-15-2009 07:46 PM

or VLV: Where we hate fun
