I always thought I'd dig them a lot but just never got to listening.

Just heard it after lagging for a while and now I'm excited as **** for the new album.

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 12-20-2016 10:24 AM

really? i think it's a decent track at best and has me kind of worried for the album. it's not that it's a bad song, it's just like, you're really gonna go with that one as your comeback single?

Frownland 12-20-2016 10:34 AM

It's not the best ATDI song, not even close, but I still think it's great.

Mondo Bungle 12-20-2016 12:00 PM

Why'd they take their name from a line in a Poison song

GuD 12-20-2016 03:41 PM

the guitar tone is whack on that track but ATDI reunion is dope

Justthefacts 12-20-2016 05:34 PM

I'm easing more into it, it's really not that bad. Pretty good actually. Here's hoping their record drops new year's.

Tristan_Geoff 02-26-2017 07:16 PM

Much better than the last single imo

ATDI's back baby

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 02-27-2017 09:32 AM

still not really resonating with me for whatever reason, hopefully i dig these tracks more in the context of the album.

Justthefacts 02-27-2017 09:16 PM

same here I'll stick to Relationship Of Command the greatest album I've ever heard.

i just don't understand how someone with otherwise great taste in punk cant get down with ATDI :-(

Tbf he probably listened to RoC, which to someone who despises emo would be sort of offputting with it's clean production and accessibility. He needs to try In/Casino/Out stat tho.

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 03-03-2017 09:28 AM

man idk, if you dont like RoC you probably just dont like got post-hardcore.

I don't know what this means but I totally agree. ROC still stands as the benchmark great post-hardcore record. So whether the new At The Drive In album sucks, that shouldn't taint the greatest record of all time by any means. Hopefully the new record rawks though but I have my reservations.

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 03-03-2017 12:17 PM

This was my big issue with ATDI for a long time. I've come around since, but it's probably my least favourite part of the whole portrait (when he's not screaming, at least).

Frownland 03-03-2017 04:03 PM

Whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa. The screaming's the part I like.

All I can think right now is really this band is in the same genre as Slint?

Not really. Slint had their roots in post-hardcore, but on Spiderland their sound was evolved far beyond it. What the two bands have in common is not really to do with post-hardcore itself: weird guitars and quiet-loud dynamics.

How about you do us a favor and not speak ill of ATDI anymore. In fact, just leave, and never come back to this thread.

That's a fact, I only listen exclusively from 2000 to present day. It's a bad habit but I don't plan on quitting anytime soon.

Oh please I did the whole older music thing for years, found recordings from 2000 upwards much more satisfying. So yes son, my taste is very well "developed".

All music within the last 60 years is basically modern music the arbitrary 00's cut off is questionable

I suppose you have a point? But the fact that my taste in music is questionable because I prefer a certain era in music, which also includes the nineties for the most part, is baffling. My taste is rock solid, certainly better than the average music goer.

Salty, but nonetheless a pretty hardcore taste.

Thrice 03-12-2017 07:27 PM

Here I am 13 years later and ATDI are still one of my favorite groups.

What's up man! Psyched for the new album!

MidnightRambler 06-20-2020 07:15 AM

Pattern Against User used to make me jump around and smash into shxt when I was 16.

I once jumped on a bed until it broke and then set an old couch on fire when that song came on at a beer party

Can't wait to get Relationship of Command on vinyl

adidasss 12-17-2020 11:40 PM

I forgot how much Relationship of command kicks ass. Too bad it's not on Spotify.

Can anyone recommend something similar (apart from The Mars Volta obviously)?

Frownland 12-18-2020 06:27 AM

Might be regional but I see it on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/album/0x6Y2...RYOcAbE6kzawnw

They're rougher around the edges, but what about Drive Like Jehu?

What the hell, everything is available here BUT ROC. What kind of weird licensing issue is that??

Anyway, thanks for the recommendation, that seems to be right on track, I'll check it out.
