This band is awesome. Loveless is my favorite album.

hiu 06-22-2006 02:55 PM

Loveless is a contender for most overrated album ever.

Kadakron 06-22-2006 03:04 PM

hiu, if you don't mind me asking. Are you from Norway?

hiu 06-22-2006 03:06 PM

No.

Kadakron 06-22-2006 03:09 PM

Ok. For some reason, I had a feeling.

cardboard adolescent 06-22-2006 07:31 PM

Loveless definetely grew on me. I'd say it's in my Top 10.

Loveless is an absolute masterpiece - boo boo's description of how the guitar acts as musical canvas is pretty spot on. It's a wonderful album to listen to.

immanuel ruby 05-21-2007 05:33 AM

What makes "My Bloody Valentine" better than the usual slasher of the era are good production values (looks more expensive than the usual slasher), some nice location work (especially the mine), and it does have some gritty atmosphere. Unfortunately, the movie is still weak in the acting, writing etc. departments, and even slasher fans will occasionally wince at some dumbness.

Have you actually read any of the thread?

coffeeshop 05-21-2007 07:31 AM

Loveless and Isn't Anything are both great albums. They both have their weak and strong songs but you can't argue with material like Come in Alone, When You Sleep and (When You Wake) You're Still in a Dream!

Loveless might be a bit overrated, it is not a flat out masterpiece, but it certainly deserves a lot of credit.

chumb 05-21-2007 08:55 AM

Loveless is one of those albums where if you listen to it at the perfect moment you can completely lose yourself in it, completely overwhelmed by its beauty and lost in a sea of sound. In my opinion, it truly is a masterpiece.

Moon Pix 05-21-2007 03:02 PM

I like the mixing on Loveless. Its completely upside down, the bass is practically nonexistent and the drums, the thing that would traditionally be driving the songs, is pushed right to the back. The guitar is much louder than everything else and you cn hardly hear the words. Funny way of mixing an album but thats what gives it its hazy, blurry character.

This is why I don't think of My Bloody Valentine in relation to the so-called "shoegazing" scene. Ride, great as they were, never sounded remotely like them.

Yeah I agree with that, it is a complete bone fide masterpiece when it ends up dragging you into its own little world. Other times I may skip a couple of tracks. For the former though it is still one of my favourite albums.

Bane of your existence 06-30-2007 11:46 AM

I thought everyone loved MVB.

Piss Me Off 06-30-2007 12:57 PM

There's not much i can say about Loveless that hasn't already been said. Wether you're daydreaming to it or concentrating on the music, its brilliant.

Listening to it too loud gives me a headache though :s

Urban Hat€monger ? 06-30-2007 08:29 PM

I still like their EPs more than their albums

You Made Me Realise is a great EP shows their more poppy side.

I rate ISN'T ANYTHING far more than LOVELESS.

joyboyo53 07-17-2007 06:24 PM

Anyone got any uploads..?

jackhammer 07-18-2007 01:22 PM

The magnificent ISN'T ANYTHING:

Be prepared for the (intentional) lo-fi production. This came out in 1988 and is in my top ten of all time.

QFT

Loveless really is a beautiful album, its just so dreamy!

boo boo 07-19-2007 06:50 AM

I love Kevin Shields' approach to guitar.

A major element of his technique is his use of extended tremalo arms (which he made by breaking them in half, putting an extra piece between the two broken pieces and then taping them together) which he uses almost constantly as he strums, creating an ethereal vibrato effect, which combined with a lot of reverb and sustain creates that trademark "dreamy" sound, and one of the coolest guitar sounds ever.

They need to make guitars specifically for that method of playing, with longer wammy bars so you can use them simultaneously while strumming. It can be called "The Glider".

Surprised no one ever thought of that before.

joyboyo53 07-24-2007 09:11 AM

ok, im listening to the ones i d/l from your upload and feeling a little bland. perhaps it just needs another listen through... often albums that take a couple of listens to like are the ones that you enjoy for longer.

Too bloody right! 5 tracks and everyone a winner. Slow and Thorn are two of my all time favourite MVB tracks.

You would probably be better off starting with Loveless to be honest. It has a very different sound to Isn't Anything.

cardboard adolescent 11-02-2007 03:21 PM

This is Your Bloody Valentine kind of sounds like a cheap Bauhaus/goth-era-Damned/Birthday Party rip-off.

Ecstasy & Wine is amazing though.

enemyat_thesix 11-03-2007 12:35 AM

mbv gets plenty of credit

NoiseNotMusic 11-04-2007 09:07 AM

loveless is one of the best albums evarrrrrr

White Lies 11-06-2007 06:30 PM

I think Loveless is their best album. Aren't I original.

I have 11 folders of music by MBV, 3 albums, and the rest EPs and whatnot. Out of those, "You Made Me Realise" is my most played at the moment.

almauro 11-06-2007 06:53 PM

I thought MBV was on to an interesting idea, fusing Jesus and Mary Chain noise pop with the ethereal rhythms of Cocteau Twins, but lacked the song-writing prowess to turn this into a classic. The good songs tend to sound similar and the boring ones stagnant and would benefit if they'd been shortened (filler perhaps?). The publicity it received in the early 90's was very good, making many top 10 lists, but has waned recently, because it’s one of those albums that’s decent, but derivative.

anticipation 11-06-2007 07:34 PM

my bloody period would be a better name for them.

cardboard adolescent 11-06-2007 09:51 PM

if mbv are derivative there is no original music

CAPTAIN CAVEMAN 11-06-2007 10:19 PM
