Can anyone up the album perchance? I'm sure to hate it but I'd like to give it a go anyway...:|

Apparently it's a bit of a change in direction so who knows, we might dig it!

It's MUCH poppier. It really depends on why you hated Deerhunter in the first place. If you found them boring and too ambient, and have a taste for shoegaze, Microcastle/Wierd Era Cont. will probably give you a 360 degree change of opinion on them.

I've given "Cryptograms" a few listens and I still find it to be rather dull. I can't exactly say why but, it doesn't really stand out I guess.

Have you heard Microcastle/Weird Era Cont. yet?

Wow, completely different bands and styles, but I can see why you would be tempted to think of one band over the other.

Deerhunter are okay, I guess. I haven't really listened to anything that's convinced me that they're worthwhile. Pitchfork loves the hell out of them, though. But then again, Pitchfork loves The Hold Steady.

Pitchfork likes lots of good bands, as well as lots of crappy bands. Kind of what I think of every music listener I meet anyways.

Deerhunter are actually my favorite band right now. A title I've only held for 9-10 other bands in my lifetime.

I've given Microcastle a listen and I while it's definitely more accessible than Cryptograms (which I've also downloaded and recently re-listened to) it's not striking me as anything particularly special. I suck at comparing stuff, but isn't this kinda what Belle and Sebastian have been doing for eons? It's lo-fi-ye and I'm not a fan of the genre.....but as with everything, it's early days and I have a tendency to radically change my opinion.
