Goth music is any music associated with the subculture. There is no stipulation that it cannot include pop. The only essential thing is that the music reflects the mood and outlook of the movement.

You say you don't find them "interesting" at all - have you listened to their major albums? I don't see how they could be considered any less interesting particularly than a band like The Smiths.
