Yes they were Punk If you hear their early stuff such as the Wasrsaw EP.And It's pretty tacky to associate them with the Goth movement because ever goth band has tried to rip them off and every goth band did it horribly. Plus goth music just sucks.

I have the Bela Lugosi's Dead single and Mask. Bela Lugosi's Dead is an amazing track other than that i'm not impressed at all.

Music journalist Jon Savage, one of the screenwriters of the recent 2008 Joy Division documentary, probably put it best when he said: "Joy Division were not punk but were directly inspired by its energy." They moved away from their punk rock influences pretty early on and created the dark, sinister sound that is their trademark - in the process, becoming one of the most important initiators of the Post-Punk movement. Their best known song, Love Will Tear Us Apart, is pretty much Synth-Pop. |

Please dont talk to me like I know nothing of the band.
You misunderstood me I said they 'were' as they were once punk as in when they first started out.

With that said, the "goth" part was pretty off...I wonder where that idea came from... |

I have Warsaw, Closer, Unknown Pleasures and the rest, they weren't "punk" IMHO ![]() I disagree that Goth music "sucks" ![]() ![]() By the way: She's lost Control is a fantastic JD jam too.

LOTS of wonderful bands from the genre(mostly pre 1992) that are excellent, and fun to listen to. Some of the bands today could learn a thing or 2 from these goth bands of yesteryear? May I suggest: Sisters Of Mercy The Bolshoi Christian Death The Shroud Virgin Prunes Nick Cave for you to listen to?
