For this years Halloween show, part of the local music scene where I live, 2 of the local bands got together to perform some "Murder Ballads" by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. I was soo impressed. It fit the whole Halloween atmosphere perfectly.

I had never heard of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds until that night, so after the show I downloaded some songs to see how accurate the local bands performed. They did a fantastic job capturing Nick Cave, and the mood of the songs, and the tone of his voice. I wish I would have recorded it.

Nonetheless, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds are really great! I respect them.

You should hear his new album The Lyre Of Orpheus/Abbatoir Blues

Easily the best album(s) to come out this year by a mile.

My favorite Nick Cave song is "Babe I'm on Fire" from Nocturama, which was a good album. I haven't heard his latest one however, but I would have said The Fiery Furnances had the best album this year

He wasn`t even as good as his old man

No way, the stuff Jeff did was better than his dad's. Tim obviously has a more impressive back catalogue, thats all. I think Jeff had more potential in terms of talent, he has a much better voice, musical talent is at least 'as' good, and the songs he did have time to write were beautiful, and most of the covers he done were handled very well, would be so easy to ruin Leonard Cohen.

But thats basically the point i`ve been making all along.
I don`t deny he had potential , but he never fulfilled it. I think it`s unfair to say that someone COULD have been better than someone else if they were never around to prove that they were .Nick Cave has been putting out top quality albums for over 25 years both with the Birthday Party & his own stuff, there are not many bands that can say that. I can`t think of a single dip in quality throughout his whole career.
To suggest that Jeff Buckley is better on the strength of one album , of which he didn`t even write around a third of it just seems a bit stupid to me. And that is why I think Nick Cave is better than Jeff Buckley.Plus I think Nick Cave has a much more expressive & distinctive voice.

nick caves had a longer and more fulfilled career, im not denying that. but based on the statement hes "better" than every other artist, im just saying i think buckley is better in that he had a much better voice than cave, buckleys vocal range and the emotion that exudes from his voice makes him a better singer. we're never going to agree on this so lets just agree to disagree!

Them and the Birthday Party are both really good bands, I have several of their albums and some live bootlegs too.

boris jawaka 09-20-2005 04:44 PM

theyre legendary i hope they come to adelaide soon cause id love to see them live

sexy_drug 09-20-2005 07:46 PM

Ahh yeah, There f*cking awsome live

Eire 85 09-22-2005 12:14 PM

Why?

I cant understand the fascination with Nick Cave. He tries to present himself as a big band/alternative/dark poetic type, but his attempts are tragically pathetic. His lyrics are weak and simplistic and although he does have good musicians, there work is drowned out by his voice (or lack of) which is irritating. This is just my opinion and I am open to enlightenment but I would suggest you all go and listen to some Leonard Cohen and see how its really done.

Frances 12-26-2006 11:44 PM

^Nick Cave is an amazing musician! Go have a listen to "Henry's Dream" and "Murder Ballads"

spark10036 01-12-2008 06:36 PM

I especially like "The Ship Song", "Into My Arms" and Cave's duet with Johnny Cash "I'm so lonely I could cry".
By the way did you see Cave's debut as a screenwriter "The Proposition"? Awesome...

mr. goth glam 01-13-2008 09:33 PM

Love Nick Cave.

Asbolutely dig everything that guy's done so far.

And hey, I like Leonard Cohen, too.

As a writer, they're essential listens to my creative process.

Not heard the album yet but really looking forward to it.

You can hear the title track here..
NICK CAVE AND THE BAD SEEDS - DIG, LAZARUS, DIG!!!

I love this new laid back, rockin' out Cave. Hearing the title track has just doubled my anticipation of getting this.

GravitySlips 01-26-2008 06:33 PM

Has this been released yet?

Urban Hat€monger ? 01-26-2008 07:06 PM

Not for another month but i'm hoping I don't have to wait that long.

jackhammer 02-28-2008 02:44 PM

Great Great album. This is a more playful Nick Cave rocking out but still with his unmistakeably brilliant lyrics. Moonland And Hold Onto Yourself are particular standouts. Some may lament that the wistful melancholia has been turned down a little but when the album is as straight up refreshing as this I can't complain. An early frontrunner for album of the year.

Urban Hat€monger ? 02-28-2008 05:09 PM

A lot of longtime Cave fans have been quite vocal against this album.

Apparently Nick isn't allowed to rock out a bit.

jackhammer 02-28-2008 05:15 PM

It will cause controversy. That's why I love it. He has thrown everyone with making a good rock album. It is still so off kilter that it will barely register in the patheons of High Society though!

After almost 3 and a half years, critically-acclaimed post-punk group Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds make a new album, called Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!!. Now, I haven't heard any of The Bad Seeds' other works from the 2000's, and I know one thing for sure, I hope they are better than this.

No songs really grabbed my attention, however, none were truly awful. I prefer my Nick Cave dark and depressing, not this, whatever you call it.
Quote:

The Bad Seeds don't sound like a six men blues ensemble but like some garage band tributing the psychedelic era without any real inspiration (ie. Grinderman bull****). The lyrics are throwaway and the vocals rather mindless shouting and blabbering.

For now, I remain unimpressed.
see what I mean

sleepy jack 02-28-2008 05:50 PM

I'm kind of excited to listen to this since I really liked Grinderman.

Farfisa 02-28-2008 09:15 PM

mr. goth glam 02-28-2008 09:26 PM

I really need to get my hands on this.

I've been nothing but pysched as hell.

cardboard adolescent 02-29-2008 12:03 PM

better than grinderman?

jackhammer 02-29-2008 12:17 PM

As good as I would say. I can't stop playing this at work.

sleepy jack 03-02-2008 12:49 AM

I dug this (HAHHAHAHSOWITTY), I still like the Boatman's Call best but I think I like this as much as Grinderman. Though No Pussy Blues (song) is still my favorite if both albums were one band.
