Default Modest Mouse's Upcoming Album

According to Isaac Brock, Modest Mouse has been working on new music for a while now. And they have been playing new material at the festival's they are attending. So their new album cannot be far off.

When do you think it will be released?
Do you think that it will live up to the quality of work Modest Mouse has had in the past?
How do you think their sound will have changed since We Were Dead?

I hope it comes out 2013, but who knows.

Probably, I hope they try new things here.

Yes, it's been five years.

I hope it comes out before Summer next year, and by now I'd assume they have started really working on the music so I hope they can put it out before then.

My only fear is that they are going to make the album too commercial the way Coldplay did with Mylo Xyloto. Big Boi even said that he was in the studio with them. So it's somewhat possible that they might feature a rap artist, and while that idea sounds absolutely vile, less likely matchups have sounded great.

I'd be pretty surprised if they tried commercial again. Try did that five years ago with We Were and that ship has since sailed (pun intended)...

I really really hated We Were Dead..., but somehow I still have hope that they'll put out something good next time. Although I was disappointed when Good News... came out also, looking back it was much better than the last. I'll remain optimistic without high expectations.

Wasn't too fond of We Were Dead... also. Good News and The Moon & Antarctica are solid records though. Hope it's something along the lines of those albums.

What I don't understand is why so many people dislike, or even loath We Were Dead.

I personally am an enormous fan of Modest Mouse's early sound. But I enjoy the new sound that modest mouse has been exploring as well. While all of the music on We Were Dead was undoubtedly more commercial, the adding of more instruments has allowed their music to remain layered and complex. I also don't think that the fact that the music is easier to listen to takes away from Isaac Brocks lyric writing. People as Places as People was, in my opinion, genius. And Parting of The Sensory was practically a throwback to the days of Lonesome Crowded west lyrically.

No Ones First and Your Next is essentially the aftermath of both We Were Dead and Bad News. So in my thought process, the two are in a way just the two sides of one album. They both include Marine themes, all though We Were Dead builds much more upon them than Bad News did. And in the way that Bad News was is in a way arguing about the nature of the soul and argues that god and afterlife aren't a necessity, We Were Dead is an album about the transience of life and the rat race that is humanity. In my opinion the two complement each other.

Can anyone explain to me why they didn't like We Were Dead?

Modest Mouse has announced their new album, Strangers to Ourselves, for release March 3, and have premiered the song "Lampshades on Fire". Below may or may not be the album cover. Could just be for the single.

Song premiere: Modest Mouse, 'Lampshades on Fire' off forthcoming album Strangers to Ourselves | The Current from Minnesota Public Radio

Based on my hatred for We Were Dead..., the song doesn't sound half bad even if it's very accessible. It's at least not annoying like most of their last album.
