I've never understood the slacker label. It's not like they sing about not cleaning their room or paying bills.

J's guitar shredding makes up for that enough, and Murph's masterful fills should at least contribute. Lou's not a bad bassist at all either and strives to bring a little experimentation to what J would have had as good old rock.

That's a draw, at least for me. It's like these guys are so cool that they don't even have to try and they can create music this explosive...

I can never get this whole "slacker" tag. As if their music is only meant to be enjoyed by scruffy, lazy stoners with no incentive to get a job or something. I wouldn't call Dinosaur Jr's music lazy, sure it has a laid-back vibe sometimes but they do put a lot of effort into their music.
