Default In Retrospect, Would It Have Been A Good Thing If Mother Love Bone Kept Making Music?

As any Mother Love Bone fan will tell you, it sucks that MLBs discography is so tiny. Their compilation, Mother Love Bone, if I'm not mistaken (though please correct me if I'm wrong), is their entire recorded output.

Now, without a doubt, Andrew Wood's death was tragic. People who knew him will tell you that he was a great human being, and he didn't deserve to die. I agree. It's sad that he died, and the way that he died.

It's also sad that as an MLB fan, they never became as big as they should have. They could have been huge if not for the untimely death of Andy. It sucks that they didn't have more music to their name.

At the same time, if Mother Love Bone would have stayed, we would have never gotten Pearl Jam or Temple Of The Dog. As someone who loves both bands, I simply can't imagine a world without PJ or TOTD.

So, what I'm asking you is, do you wish there was more MLB music? Do you hate the fact that they ended before their prime? At the same time, would the loss of Pearl Jam and Temple Of The Dog be too much to ask? In a way, is it a good thing that MLBs output was so small? Or do you, like me, feel a bit of both?

Except for the fact that Soundgarden was already a band when AW died, and not a single member of MLB joined Soundgarden.

Temple of the Dog was a tribute project, not an actual band.

That hasn't stopped other bands. AC/DC and Alice In Chains, for example. Also, if you want, you can pretend that Andrew never died for the sake of this discussion.

Also, as Paul stated, Soundgarden was around before MLB. I think Soundgarden and Malfunkshun started around the same time, though.

I was never a big fan of MLB in general. I feel like the best album to come out of subpop in the early 90's was by {Codeine} Frigid Stars. I would also put Nirvanas Bleach album at the forefront ahead of any of the other Seattle heavyweights.

Not at all. It was a tragedy that Andrew Woods died, but at the same time, it was this very sad thing that ads to the bands mystique. They were so far ahead of their time, I can't think of another band that combined glam and grunge so eloquently if at all.

Mother Love Bone were truly unique and Andrew Woods was a better vocalist than Eddie Vedder or Chris Cornell for that matter.

I don't say this lightly because I was a huge Soundgarden fan and I also really liked Pearl Jam's first Album, but there was just something magical about Andrew's voice. Had they continued, I think they would have lost that magic.

As entertaining as I found Mother Love Bone's music, it was waayy too steeped in hair metal for my taste. You could hear the seeds of grunge and Pearl Jam in there, but they would have done just fine alongside Poison. Would they have grown and changed with the times? Perhaps. But considering Eddie Vedder was part of what made the grunge "image" so popular, things in the 90's may have been veerrry different. Smells Like Teen Spirit may have been the catalyst, but Pearl Jam kept it alive for sure.
