Maybe I should have said uninteresting and overrated instead.

Does this mean The Backstreet Boys deserve more serious consideration?

If a band as awful as Pearl Jam can be deemed an important band from that time I see no reason why Oasis shouldn't either.

However they did do Wonderwall and they mellowed out the sound in the second album so the ultimate question is this, should I bother with Oasis?

Ive checked out from Oasis awhile ago but they're not a bad band im sure you'll find a couple of decent tunes from them worthy of your time.

Try She's electric i personally think it's a better song than Wonderwall.

Remember this like it was yesterday. Rushed out and bought it the following Monday.
Still think it's their best song.

If you don't like their first album than the answer is no, as it is often cited as their best.

Plus Noel Gallagher is the songwriting talent of the group, if you don't like his "dense" guitar sound you won't like Oasis.

Good one, i forgot all about this song.

i remember Oasis being hyped up as the next Beatles, people saw that potential in them but then i suddenly started hearing Noel & Liam were arrogant assh*les and people slandering Oasis.

That was their appeal.
You want a nice guy go listen to Dave Grohl.

No thank you, i prefer Dave behind a drumset.

that "appeal" as you call it ended overshadowing their talent.

I don't like boybands and consider them all to be, more or less, different flavours of shit. But if I see a thread on a boyband, I don't really see the point of swooping in and telling people it's crap. I mean, the people interested in discussing them obviously have different interests to me, so how relevant is my "they're crap"-opinion to them? And what will me telling them it's crap add to the forums, other than possibly telling them that people like me are judging their taste thinking it stinks and are prepared to casually shame them for it?

That doesn't mean a "they're crap" post has no value, but it needs more substance than just that simple statement.

I also think it should be possible to discuss all music on musicbanter without feeling like you're under attack, so I've no wish to alienate people who like music I don't like.

And depending on what you're looking for, there can be lots of things worth serious consideration about The Backstreet Boys. Talented people have written songs for them, produced them, marketed them - and they were a success.

edit :

My first post earlier in this thread is more or less my spin on the one Frownland did.
