agree with everything you just said. i like can keane, theres no denying that, and i also think coldplay are absolute masters of their snoozy trade. they make embrace and athlete resemble mere amateurs.

The Indie Bar Kid 02-27-2005 01:15 PM

Oh yeah and in answer to the question, since this is a Bloc Party discussion, are they not edgy, and slightly sinister (have you seen the guitarist, for Chrissake!)? I think so, and even if, as UH says, they are recycling the glory of their elders is that not better than listening to Embrace's Ashes and Athlete's Wires coming form every festival amplifier... This reporter says: Yes, yes it is... Back to you in the studio, Kent..

Sneer 02-27-2005 01:24 PM

...if you look back, ive said i really like bloc party. and yea, as i also said, the album sounds edgy. which i like. of course theres still bands with the sinister edgy thing going on- thank the lord. just in a broader sense, its not the indie norm at present. to me anyway.

Urban Hat€monger ? 02-27-2005 05:27 PM

Embrace make me want to puke , It`s almost like they had a band meeting

"Oh no , nobody likes Oasis anymore what are we going to do"
"Let`s sound like some other bands tribute act instead, Coldplay are quite popular these days"
"Great idea , It already worked for Snow Patrol.Lets rip off Coldplay now instead of Oasis"

The Indie Bar Kid 02-28-2005 10:28 AM

HEY! Don't insult the Patrol! Final Straw is an excellent, emotive and varied LP... That sounds like they're ripping off Coldplay.

Still they do it infinitely better than Embrace, who actually copy Coldplays videos and evrything! Seriously, look at Ashes! With the mute button on, obviously.

Sneer 02-28-2005 02:02 PM

i dig gary and co.

Urban Hat€monger ? 02-28-2005 03:22 PM

Preach it sista

spearmint 03-01-2005 08:24 AM

The Indie Bar Kid 03-08-2005 02:10 PM

The Indie Bar Kid 03-09-2005 01:04 PM

Haha and I was gonna put Johnny Borrell in... But Bono- Now that is a touch of genius.

Urban Hat€monger ? 03-09-2005 02:11 PM

Johnny Borrell is the gobby lead singer of what pretty much amounts to a bad Libertines tribute band who get far more attention than they deserve. He has absolutley nothing to be self deprecating about

Sneer 03-10-2005 07:23 AM

somewhere else isnt a bad song though.

The Indie Bar Kid 03-11-2005 03:48 PM

Yeah it follows that Razorlight trend of having what should be really crummy lyrics, and a simplistic tune, but still manages to be really good. If anything there a top-class pop band, I dont know where their indie cred comes from.... And to be honest Urban Hatemonger, I think The Libertines are a lazy comparison, the two aren't really that alike.

Sweet Jane 03-26-2005 04:00 PM

Johnny Borrell was in my local bar last Tuesday night. Happy days! So so so much pleasure was taken from seeing him look at me, I walked up to him, said "excuse me" and as he smiled and was ready to sign my chest or something similar, I asked if he could move out the way as he was blocking my way to the toilets. He looked gutted!! :D

Urban Hat€monger ? 03-26-2005 04:21 PM

Bwaaaaaahahahahahahahhahahahahahaaaaaa

Nice to know someone can shut that gobby twat up

Zealious 03-27-2005 05:41 PM

I like the Block Party because of their light rock sound. My favorite song by them is This Modern Love.

coffeeshop 04-11-2005 01:05 PM

Bloc Party- Best New Indie Band Since 90's?

BBC Album Review

Great band and great music. Anybody else like them?

My favourite songs are 'Helicopter', 'Banquet' and 'Plans'.

Urban Hat€monger ? 04-11-2005 01:12 PM

How about yet another indie band with an average debut album & will be forgotten about in 3 or 4 years time.

coffeeshop 04-11-2005 01:13 PM

Well I think it is a great debut album.

Urban Hat€monger ? 04-11-2005 01:15 PM

I remember them saying the same thing about Flowered Up , Menswear , S*M*A*S*H , These Animal Men , Orlando & The Weekenders

Remember them?

Thought not

coffeeshop 04-11-2005 01:18 PM

Well not all bands end up like that.

Just look at The Coral, Feeder, Stereophonics, The Strokes, Muse etc.

Sneer 04-11-2005 02:30 PM

muse arent indie, stereophonics whilr being pleasant and good party music are nothing special feeder- well have taken a huge ste in the wrong direction with sappy and spinless pushing the senses. the strokes are victims of their own hype but they have a lot of talent. granted, the coral are a very good band in my opinion but they are underrated. block party are nowhere near being the best indie band since the nineties. if you were to ask me what band IS the best since the 90s, i wouldnt hesitate in saying Black Rebel Motorcycle Club.

Sneer 04-11-2005 02:37 PM

doesnt he mean post 1990s. primal scream havent done anything of any note this decade have they? correct me if im wrong.

Urban Hat€monger ? 04-11-2005 02:39 PM

Apart from releasing XTRMNTR in 2000 which was about the best album out that year not really

Sneer 04-11-2005 02:43 PM

dont be silly the best album of 2000 was Kid A or murheen laakso

Urban Hat€monger ? 04-11-2005 02:47 PM

You have Beatles bias
I have Primal Scream bias

I`m not saying Kid A is better than XTRMNTR until you admit Exile On Main Street pisses over Sgt Pepper ;)

Sneer 04-11-2005 02:48 PM

haha, never. it isnt happening. you know in your heart Kid A is superior.

hookers with machineguns 04-11-2005 02:52 PM

best new indie band since the 90s? I dunno about that.

Couple of good songs I've heard from them. But, it should be interesting to see if they can progress at all.

Urban Hat€monger ? 04-11-2005 02:53 PM

Either way every band mentioned so far pisses over bloc party

I think i`ll add Sigur Ros & Lemon Jelly in too

Sneer 04-11-2005 02:54 PM

if franz ferinand can be so successful, the bloc party can. i just dont believe they are anything particulary special- good guitar-pop band, thats it.

Sweet Jane 04-11-2005 04:12 PM

Not the best new indie band since the 90s. The Coral, A silver Mount Zion, Libertines, (I'll get flamed for that) Neutral Milk Hotel, and dare I say it, even the Arcade fire are closer to being best indie band of the decade so far.

hookers with machineguns 04-11-2005 07:41 PM

As of now, I'll tip my hat to the Fiery Furnaces for putting out consecutive good releases, the Faint and Le Tigre for putting out some of the best dance albums ever, and The Decemberists because I was totally unaware of their show last week in my town. Which reminds me, didnt the Decemberists just come out with a new album?

^Meh, I have no major problems with the Libertines, nothing to get flamed over at least. I'll admit it, I like two or three of their songs.
That Arcade Fire album pissed me off. You know, it was a decent album, but it was overhyped by the critics, and a lot of them were suggesting it was the best album of the year. What a load. For those who never picked up Funeral, don't! It's not worth it at all.

Sneer 04-12-2005 02:25 AM

nothing wrong with the libertines at all. two very good albums in fact. im a fan. arcade fire are good, the coral are VERY good. but for me nobody tops BRMC in terms of indie this decade...so far.

coffeeshop 04-13-2005 01:47 PM

I never said they were the best indie band since the 90's, that was on that link I gave you. I think probably The Coral are best.

The Libertines are great but I hate Franz Ferdinand (their guitar is so repetitive).

Anyway if you haven't already you should buy Bloc Party's album I don't care if they are not as good as so and so, it is still a great album.

Sneer 04-13-2005 03:15 PM

i know its a good album, not great, but good.

LeafHouse 04-15-2005 01:31 PM

Best new band of the 00's. Is the poster on something, or under the age of 16?
