Bloc Party

Ok I think this is the right genre. So I've heard about 3 songs by bloc party and I think they're freaking amazing...but I was just wondering if anyone has there album and whether it's any good, because I'm fed up of liking one song, buying an album and only listening to that song...so anybody know?

I think they're touring with pretty girls make graves in march but they're sold out I think so there's no way of seeing them live, I thought I'd compensate by buying the CD if it's good.

(For those who wish to know I've heard 'helicoptor','Banquet' and 'so here we are')

Sneer 02-22-2005 02:48 PM

i just bought the album yesterday and to me its very edgy, energetic "art-rock" if you will. helicoptor and banquet are class and though i think so here we are is quite spineless, overall the album is worth buying, stand out tracks for me are the obvious two plus this modern love and positive tension- which incidentaly- rules.

franscar 02-22-2005 03:19 PM

Yeah it's a good record, Banquet is the stand out on there but the rest of it is very solid. Good debut, hopefully something they'll build on.

hookers with machineguns 02-22-2005 04:21 PM

I like what I've heard thus far. Uh.... I don't know what else to say.
blah

Urban Hat€monger ? 02-24-2005 10:14 AM

I might actually get around to hearing the album one day

Sweet Jane 02-26-2005 04:32 PM

I've never listened to the album either, but I have downloaded a lot of songs and they just haven't made much of an impression

Urban Hat€monger ? 02-26-2005 04:43 PM

Well i`ve heard the album now.

Can`t say i`m too impressed , It`s alright but nothing i`ve not heard before.

The Indie Bar Kid 02-26-2005 05:28 PM

I'm not sure if newbies have any rights to opinions here, but here goes... Well the first ooohhh.... seven songs are utterly flan-tastic, but it all starts getting a bit samey and whatnot t'wards the end. Still, Helicopter and She's Hearing Voices alone warrant it at least an "8". I'm interested to see what they do next seeming as they have a really varied sound on Silent Alarm... Watch this space... WATCH IT! Ahem... Thank you

Urban Hat€monger ? 02-26-2005 05:36 PM

A really varied sound?

I guess it is , I mean some of the songs sound like Franz Ferdinand & the rest of them sound like the Strokes

The Indie Bar Kid 02-26-2005 05:52 PM

Zing! Yeah but what about track 3, She's Hearing Voices.... Pigeonhole that! Some of their stuff is actually quite *shivers*...emo...

Delicate 02-26-2005 05:57 PM

bloc party also make me cringe.*cringes*

Sub standard Joy Division

And it`s track 6
:p:

The Indie Bar Kid 02-26-2005 06:17 PM

Track 6? Well it's three on mine... You know on the version you buy LEGALLY... In anyways- it's a step on from joy divis.... **** OK Wrong song name :yikes:  *Face turns redder than a smacked arse* I meant Positive Tension... Whoops... Well the same question is posed.

And for the record (or C.D , whatever you bought it on) I agree about Shes Hearing Voices and Joy Divsion. Sorry!!! :usehead:

Urban Hat€monger ? 02-26-2005 06:23 PM

I`ll give you that song , it is one of the better ones on the album.

But it`s still something i`ve heard a million times before

The Indie Bar Kid 02-26-2005 06:33 PM

I think they're given such a high rating because of theie whole "we're a ragtag bunch of nerds and geeks like you who get picked on in school and (possibly) masturbate too much" aura. That's nothing partiularly new but it does make one think "Well if they can do it, so can I". Dammit, I will do it... Then you'll see... Then you'll ALL see... *Sob* Sorry it's an emotional time (The OC is on)

Urban Hat€monger ? 02-26-2005 06:40 PM

I think it`s more snobbery on the part of the British music press more than anything.

For example I saw The Bravery`s new single get trashed in one paper for being 'The same old early 80s new wave imitation that everybodys doing' which is ironic really because Bloc Party, Franz Ferdinand and all the rest of them are doing the exact same thing & getting praised to high heaven for it. Although personally I think The Bravery do it far better than those bands , but of course the Bravery are American , which probably counts for everything

The Indie Bar Kid 02-26-2005 06:48 PM

Critics are giving the perception that these bands are just pilfering history for a tune... I see it more like a continuation of the New Wave stuff. Todays acts are picking up were it was all left off for Acid and Grunge and Britpop... Let it continue, I say, especially when were getting quality like The Killers and The Bravery, and yes, Bloc Party. And Honest Mistake is a ****er (kicker) of a song, but not nearly as goo as Uncoditional.

Urban Hat€monger ? 02-26-2005 06:49 PM

You had to go spoil it by mentioning the Killers :(

The Indie Bar Kid 02-26-2005 06:56 PM

Urban Hat€monger ? 02-26-2005 06:56 PM

No , I like a lot of mainstream bands.

I just hate albums with 1 or 2 half decent songs & the rest made up of watered down crud.

Delicate 02-26-2005 06:59 PM

argh embrace just exemplify everything thats wrong with british indie at the moment. for the most part its all either spineless, sappy anthemic rubbish like athlete, thirteen senses, and even feeder now, yes feeder, "britians own smashing pumpkins" at one time. whats happened to all the prog, edgy and slightly sinister or completely warped, pysche indie of yesteryear?

The Indie Bar Kid 02-27-2005 01:11 PM

You forgot the Kings of Snooze themselves: Keane... Although you can't help but like them can you. It's a well-worn cliche at this point but this is all down to Coldplay. The difference is they actually pull it off with style, majesty, and some ****ing good tunes.
