That is a good dance song.

FireInCairo 08-18-2008 09:20 PM

i thought flux was quite good
kele is really into dance music and he does dj spots and stuff so its not really a huge leap out of nowhere
i can see fans hating it though
they just want banquet pt2

sweet_nothing 08-18-2008 10:21 PM

Off their first album banquet was probably my least favorite.

15Steps 08-19-2008 01:29 AM

anyone hear the new single?
i kind of like it, its very different.

YouTube - Bloc Party - Mercury

sweet_nothing 08-19-2008 01:55 AM

the new single is meh

Piss Me Off 08-19-2008 03:59 AM

Flux is their best song easily, definitely came out of nowhere after the dodgy 2nd album. I think people are put off by how the new direction but just take it for what it is: a damn effective dance song.

Bit undecided on Mercury, think it would sound good in a club though. I have to give them some credit for experimenting with their sound instead of releasing the same old gash like SOME of the bands over here do.

insinkerator 08-19-2008 04:23 AM

Wow i just listened to their new single. It is absolutely terrible. They were an above average band in my eyes before this but now.......

Hopefully they can put it behind them and start making proper music again

FireInCairo 08-19-2008 05:11 AM

i really liked flux but i just gave that new one a spin
didnt hit me at all

adidasss 08-19-2008 05:25 AM

Sweet. Can't wait for the new album...

insinkerator 08-19-2008 05:58 AM

Its out thursday right?

Apparently...;)

YouTube - Bloc Party - Trojan Horse

Heres another song from the album.... its better than mercury, the sound quality isnt great, but hopefully the rest of the songs will improve on mercury like this one did!

Farfisa 08-19-2008 01:04 PM

ugh...I don't like where they are going with this. It sounds to electronic.

insinkerator 08-19-2008 01:55 PM

Trojan Horse is better than mercury though no? I think so anyway

15Steps 08-19-2008 03:17 PM

im pretty psyched for this album, either way it will be an interesting listen.

I hate Bloc Party fans, heres why

OMG this is incredible, is like a combination of the electronic (or dark pop) BLOC PARTY with the BLOC PARTY from Silen alarm, one of my top five, with SO HERE WE ARE, THE PRESENT, RHONDONDRENDRONS and UNIFORM. just great. FUCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK

Well kinda, but mostly the hair cut

15Steps 08-20-2008 12:55 AM

he looks really young.

sweet_nothing 08-20-2008 01:14 AM

I think it's just the pic but he's like in his late 20's. He's the most stylish band memeber but I do love Kele's hair. His haircut reminds me of Jonny Greenwood's.

Piss Me Off 08-20-2008 03:51 AM

Apparantly he has his own side project now, can't remember the name but they're alright from what i've heard.

Yes they are good I had forgotten all about them until you mentioned them. I actually have an EP by them and had completely forgotten about it. But I'm looking forward to their bebut album sometime this year.

Its interesting how much Bloc Party's sound has changed

Helicopter (2005)

today

Mercury (2008)

But I'm not sure If theyve gotten better.

Ahh yes, yeah they're alright, i have to admit they sound more like classic Bloc Party than Bloc Party do right now!

FireInCairo 08-20-2008 06:21 AM

I think mercury is growing on me...

I think they have an ointment for that. ;)

But yeh I'm warming up to it too. Has anyone ever heard the remix of their debut album if so is it any good?

I would have to say the same for most Bloc Party Cd's. I usually listen the first time and I'm a little if'y but I'll find myself going back to the cd again and again till I like it. I'm thinking Bloc Party may have some sort of subliminal messaging going on.

FireInCairo 09-13-2008 01:26 AM

i just listened to silent alarm again
and i change my standpoint they're never going to hit that again

GGhf 09-13-2008 09:57 AM

Ya, I would definetly have to say that was their best album. It is my favorite, they seem to be going into a tech/pop genre.. which I mean you have to respect. Some fans hate it when bands stay the same, others hate it when bands keep coming out with the same sounding material. I'm sure you have or have heard of there remake of silent alarm that is all techo'y so you know in the back of their heads they've always wanted to create or enjoyed this type of music.

Kind of repeated yourself there.

Lol, that I did. Some fans hate it when bands stay the same, others hate it when bands change their material.**

That is true. You cannot please everyone. If Bloc Party rehashed the debut, then fans would complain. They take a new direction and still people complain. I still have yet to hear the new album but i still adore the debut. I think that among the many albums released at that time (Killers, Kaiser Chiefs,Kasabian,Hard Fi etc) they stand head and shoulders above all of those.

Admittedly that is not a great list but as commercial guitar orientated music goes 'Silent Alarm' is damn good.

FireInCairo 09-13-2008 05:57 PM

i dont think they would have had as much problem in going with a different genre if their songs stood up to the ones on the first album.
i quite like both a weekend in the city and intimacy
but they are both probably (in my head anyway) 3 star records wheras silent alarm was 4
*sorry to put it in numbers
i thought it the best way to put my thought down and the numbers do not reflect a "rating"

^^ Dude, i could not agree with you more. I wouldn't say their newer stuff isn't appealing cause the genre is changing it's just there are more mediocre than great songs on the newer albums.

henry 09-15-2008 07:57 PM

nothing comes close to silent alarm... anyways, im seeing them live on wednesday woot

FireInCairo 09-16-2008 04:46 AM

aaaahhhh are you that scenester type we were talking about earlier?
