Nice to have ya here Brian. What bands or artists are you into?

And what specific kind of punk do you play? Hardcore, with mosh pits flailing? Jazz punk, with screeching saxophones? Gypsy punk, with drunken fiddling? Cabaret punk, with disturbing skits and creepy puppets?

And... I have to say, what with the way you type, I doubt you are older than most of the folks here. The average age around here seems to be mid to late twenties and thirties. At 20, I often feel like one of the youngest ones here. So how old ARE you?

I listen to lots of different kinds of music, from rockabilly to garage to roots, Celtic, every now and again, jazz, country, or classical. And of course punk rock.

I'd post a pic of myself to show how old I am but I haven't enough posts to do that. I'd let you listen to the band but even putting a link to it got somebody's knickers in a twist already* and I've been slapped on the wrist with having my post count frozen, haha. So there ya go, anarchy. (*Apparently this was considered "advertising" even though none of my posts have ever tried to sell anyone anything and I linked to a page where one could download our entire album for free.)

So, to respond to your question about music (not to advertise), the punk rock we play is sorta like the original stuff, Ramones, Pistols, Clash, along with more trad modern bands like say Rancid or Social D. The name of the band is Crash Pad, and Google is your friend. But whatever you do, DON'T FECKING BUY ANYTHING, JUST LISTEN. Because otherwise some Einstein mod is going to go all ballistic with this advert conspiracy bull****e thing again. I'm just responding to your question about music-- which is, wait for it-- music banter. Innit?

And I'm old enough to have a daughter in university and son in high school. And to have had surgery, chemo, and radiation for throat cancer last year. I'd show you a great pic of my "Hang 'Em High" scar at its gnarliest, but again, no post count.

So, old enough to know better. Or not.

Thanks man. Good to be seen.

I honestly ain't trying to cause a stink. I never imagined that a sig line link to a free download would be considered "advertising." I've posted in probably dozens of forums, and on none have I ever seen such an interpretation of forum rules.

So I took it down and just put a sig link to our general band page. Then they nuked me again, presumably because if one followed links on that page, one could get to a page where one could buy something.

So I took THAT link down too. I put the current quote from the rules (the link to them is what they put there, not I), which is what had led me to believe there was nothing wrong with either of the previous sig lines.

I'm still at 3 posts.

I figure that after maybe a few hundred helpful, charming, humorous, inisghtful posts in my usual sunny demeanor, without a hint of "advertising," some sort of cyber-papal dispensation may come my way. Though I ain't holding my breath. Just being a good boy and playing by the rules, as I now understand them to be.

Welcome to the site. Regarding the signature, new members aren't permitted to advertise, because we as a community do not desire people coming here to drop off a link and split. We want people to be a part of our community.

We deal with a lot of spam in a day, and from time to time an honest member gets a slap on the wrist; it could be that it wasn't clear whose work you were promoting, or whether or not you were here for that intent alone. If you stick around and make an effort to settle down, there won't be a problem with sharing again.

In the meantime, tell us about your favourite artists?

EDIT: Post counts don't freeze, it's just that posts only qualify towards them in certain forums.

Well, fair enough, you're older than most of the folks here, then. But just a tip: seniority won't stop people from being annoyed at you for bitching over forum rules.

And post counts don't count in the Introductions section. Not exactly sure why, but it doesn't really matter.

Ah, not sure where I should post to have more than 3, but I reckon I'll get there eventually anyhow, if only by dumb luck.

I listen to a pretty broad range of music. Rock especially. I'm old enough to remember big 60's bands like the Beatles and the Stones, both of whom I liked (but probably the Stones moreso), to say nothing of the Who. And beginning more in the '50's Chuck Berry, and the rockabilly cats like Carl Perkins, Elvis, Gene Vincent, Wanda Jackson, etc. And early rock people like Little Richard, and of course Bo Diddley, for whom I had the honor of playing bass once, a few years before he passed. Back to the '60's, I also liked the American garage bands like Troggs, Raiders, Kingsmen, and surf/instrumental music like Link Wray the Ventures, and Dick Dale (whom I just saw play live a few weeks ago). And a huge fan of CCR.

In the 70's, there were all kinds of bands I liked, especially things that were guitar-centric, but conversely NOT the dreaded disco. So, early proto punk/glam like NY Dolls, Dictators, MC5, Iggy Pop/Stooges, Bowie and especially the NY/London punk axis that came after: Ramones, Heartbreakers, Blondie, Talking Heads, Pistols, Clash, Buzzcocks, 999, Damned, etc.

But I also liked non-punk 70's guitar rock, hometown boy Tom Petty, roots/country people like the Byrds, and all kinds of power pop/new wave, from Cheap Trick (whom I've had the pleasure of hanging out with one time when I interviewed Bun E., my band's drummer is his former drum tech) and the Cars to people no one's ever heard of like Moon Martin (who wrote "Bad Case of Lovin' You"), or the Jags or the Records.

Jeez, I still got the 80's 90's and 00's to go.

That's enough for now.

If we let you do it we have to let about 500 other people a day do it too.

So that's why.

I don't expect people to not be annoyed at me because of my age, which I don't consider "seniority" in any sense, they can be annoyed all they like. I'm a reasonable person, if linking to a free download of music on a music discussion site is considered "advertising," I'll take it down.

In fact I already have. Or would have, if mods had asked me to.

Not intending to bitch, whether it strikes anyone that way or not. More like "WTF?"
