Welcome. How do you feel about non-meditative throat singing/extended voice technique?

I don't know anything about it.

The only throat singing I've ever heard has been meditative, stuff I've downloaded just to have something quiet and peaceful when I need it.

A more accessible example is how the rougher and almost strained elements of Howlin Wolf's vocal style uses the same part of the voice as the low and midrange throat singing.

Then the white people heard about it (along with other regional vocal styles) and they made it weird as ****.

Spoiler for Phil Minton:

Spoiler for Mike Patton:

Interesting that you used Minton and Patton as examples.
It reminds me when I was working on a project with Zorn and
when it came to the male vocalist, I wanted either Minton or Blonk,
but Zorn wanted to use his brofriend Patton. I lost that one.

Is Zorn generally as annoying as one would expect him to be? (Quite.)

Ja I get that vibe from his interviews. His Frippian ideas of streaming and bootlegging are annoying too. Fripp at least came around on streaming.

Patton's a nice in since a lot of people know about Faith No More.

Well, we got off to a bad start initially,
but his *difficulty* arises from a kind of
stubborn individualism and impatience with stuff.
Once you recognize that, then you learn to tread
carefully while enjoying his occasional niceties.
He loosened up as time went on with following projects.

Yeah, Patton was a selling point,
but, you know, I wasn't interested in the business end
of things when it got right down to that particular project.
He would be 'cause it's his label, so I can understand that.
