The only album I have is Zombie which is damn funky afro-beat stuff.
His discog seems dauntingly huge. I wouldn't mind if you could recommend me an album or two or even make a compilation.

A compilation would be huge as all his tracks are usually over 10 minutes each. I'm now up to 23 albums.

Shakara and Open And close are excellent albums. PM me if you have any trouble ;)

The guy's music is just, y'know, brilliant. I've only got 'He Miss Road/Water No Get Enemy' on CD myself - 'It's No Possible' is one of the best pieces of music I've ever heard

jackhammer 11-04-2008 04:29 PM

His son has made some pretty good music too.

Bulldog 11-05-2008 07:17 AM

Yeah, Femi Kuti isn't it? Pretty sure I've got a CD of his lying around somewhere

jackhammer 11-05-2008 12:27 PM

Yeah it's Femi Kuti. I have both 'Fight To Win' and 'The Definitive Collection' on CD and although there are some great tunes, his father's work is far superior.

There's a whole revival of Fela-esque afrobeat going on right now. There's Antibalas, of course, but also the Chicago Afrobeat Project, Nomo, the Budos Band, and they're all great.

You should also check out other stuff contemporaneous to Fela. Check the Nigeria Special compilations. They're brilliant.

I have a couple of Antibalas tracks but the other names are new to me. thank christ-some new names and not the same old tired crap on here. Much appreciated.
