Ghost Rock was a damn fun album to listen to. The Budos Band II is damn funky and groovy, and has an old-school vibe to it ;) Yeah, like both.

Haven't listened to Antibalas though. I'll check them out! Go on, throw in more names :D

A new name for me. I just checked out his discog. Massive. Gotta investigate.

Yeah. Budos Band does funky '70s car chase stuff with afrobeat arrangements.

You might also want to check out Tony Allen, who was Fela's drummer at one point. He appears on a great Fela tribute comp called Red Hot + Riot. He's still very active and if you discog him, you'll find all kinds of great music in and around afrobeat.

Nomo I think was inspired to use the likembe (thumb piano) from a resurgent groupd from Kinshasa called Konono No.1, which is deep afrobeat trance music.

Anyone here heard any King Sunny Ade? I was rummaging through my CDs the other day and found some of his stuff. Not really as funky as Fela but he's another one of the most revered names in Nigerian music - well worth checking out if you're into Fela's stuff. I'd be happy to upload some if anyone's interested

I had heard the name and got hold of just one track and was slightly dissapointed but if an upload is around I would certainly listen to an album for a better opinion.

Fela has 4 box sets out there, rare and expensive especially box set 2, ebay had a few on a couple of weeks ago. Each box set contains 6 LP's with information booklets as well as photographs of the man himself and family a must for any Fela fan... Amazon had box set 2 for, I think $500 second hand but prices are going to go probably higher with the opening of the show "Fela" in NY

Fela Kuti's best period?
 

I recently purchased Zombie and have been obsessed with Kuti ever since. I would like to purchase another album by him but want some opinions first. I am tempted to either purchase some of his later work from the 80's with the Egypt 80 or some of his solo work from before Zombie. What period have you guys come to love the most?

I got to see Seun Kuti & Egypt 40 at a festival recently. Unfortunately, I haven't heard his father's music that I know of. I'm a bit in the dark about Afropop. They played one of Fela's songs for sure, not sure about the rest.
