SRV vs. Johnny Winter

Man I love some SRV but I've been listening to some Johnny Winter lately and there's lots of licks that make the hair stand up on the back of my neck. To me, Stevie maybe had more "flash" but Johnny's "straight-up" style talks to me a little bit more.

What more can I say? From what I can remember, his shows must have been great because I kept returning. After my ears stopped ringing I always seemed to feel warm and and fuzzy for days afterword. Either I was seeing double or many of these shows had Edgar Winter up there too. What year is it?

I completely agree with you. Stevie Ray had soul. While the albino had some pretty good stuff here and there, I find him to be a bit spastic. Stevie had good timing. One of my favorite songs is "Tin Pan Alley". An example of a song that takes its tiime, just like every good lover should.

I think you got Johnny confused with Jimi, there..

SRV is top 3 on my favorite guitarists of all time, and Johnny is not, so to me this thread is the easiest decision I've made today..

I have yet to hear a blues artist that can hang with SRV's consistent perfection, though Johnny Winter is a great himself and more influential. If we're just rating their overall playing, I choose SRV.
