On a hot summer day by a lake you are determined to build a boat made of ice, using a refrigeration unit and a large mold in which you can pour water. Nearby you notice an Egyptian mummy resting on a pile of wood pulp. What is the best strategy for building an ice boat that will not melt before you sail it across the lake?

I meant that swimmingintheundertow was a googler.
Though I think you googled for the final final answer as well.
You still get the points (along with AITA) for basically getting the answer right.

tdoc210 06-04-2006 12:21 PM

^ i didnt google..i derived it.. but w/e..still i got the most complete answer methinks..now solve my riddle

Uglycasanova 06-04-2006 12:22 PM

u summon the mumy using ur lvl 3 ice spell and have him use the wood to redirect the rays of the sun long enough for u to build and sail ur boat

tdoc210 06-04-2006 12:23 PM

^ wrong as usual

EDIT: think in history, and mixtures

bungalow 06-04-2006 12:25 PM

Do I need the mummy for anything?

Uglycasanova 06-04-2006 12:25 PM

u realized that u were sleeping thro history class and when u see the mumy u wake up

tdoc210 06-04-2006 12:25 PM

^ no

bungalow 06-04-2006 12:26 PM

Didn't some guy propose the idea of builing ice ships for like WW2 or something?

tdoc210 06-04-2006 12:27 PM

^ your on the right track bung

Uglycasanova 06-04-2006 12:28 PM

does the boat need to consist of only ice?

bungalow 06-04-2006 12:28 PM

^Good question
Well, if I didn't need the mummy, do I need the wood pulp?

tdoc210 06-04-2006 12:29 PM

^ yes.. yehp very god bung

bungalow 06-04-2006 12:31 PM

I compact the wood pulp, and put it around the ice ship (which was created by pouring Lake Water into the mold, and then refrigerating it) to reinforce it.
Then I sail it away?

Uglycasanova 06-04-2006 12:31 PM

u throw the mumy wood and ice into a blender to make the mixture, taste it and realize all u really wanted was a good smoothie and drink the whole thing

tdoc210 06-04-2006 12:32 PM

^ right o.for bungalow.. "just stfu cassanova i said no mummy" . the mixture i called pykrete it can with stand a torpedo let alone melting... a 60 ton ship was actually built and it never meltd in a very hot summer

bungalow 06-04-2006 12:33 PM

=o
Point for me I guess.

tdoc210 06-04-2006 12:36 PM

yehp.. at least billy boy has good deritive sense

bungalow 06-04-2006 12:38 PM

Okay, new riddle:

Before I came, confusion abounded.
I'm late, I'm late was frequently sounded.

I'm not average, but was based on a mean.
My size, in theory, is constant: fifteen.

I'm two dozen steps, again in theory.
But walk my length and you'd get weary.

I take half and quarter steps at times.
In reality, I don't follow the lines.

I shrink to nothing in two cold extremes.
Over a thousand miles wide in the betweens.

What am I?

tdoc210 06-04-2006 12:41 PM

^ a number line?

bungalow 06-04-2006 12:42 PM

Nope

cardboard adolescent 06-04-2006 12:46 PM

It has something to do with time.

cardboard adolescent 06-04-2006 12:47 PM

And the poles.

bungalow 06-04-2006 12:55 PM

Yes.
Time zones.

mosesandtherubberducky 06-04-2006 01:11 PM

So is that the answer cause I've got a couple riddles

bungalow 06-04-2006 01:40 PM

Yeah, that's the answer.

cardboard adolescent 06-04-2006 02:01 PM

Here's one that's more logic-oriented (if you know the answer, please don't tell it, because it's fun to figure this one out on your own):

You're trapped in a room, with two doors on either end.
One door is rigged with explosives, and if you go through it you will die.
The other leads to the outside world, and freedom.
In front of each door is a guard.
One guard always tells the truth, and the other always lies.
You don't know which guard is in front of which door,
but there is one question you can ask either guard that will allow you to escape.

What is this question and how do you use the response to escape?

gabbagabba_hey 06-04-2006 02:04 PM

damn....thats hard

Uglycasanova 06-04-2006 02:09 PM

actually there a very large list of questions you coul ask such as what gender am i et all....

cardboard adolescent 06-04-2006 02:15 PM

Right but you can only ask one question and it has to tell you which door to go through.

jr. 06-04-2006 02:16 PM

Are you only allowed to ask one guard the question?

You ask either guard 'which door would the other guard tell me is rigged with explosives?'

Whichever door the guard says, you go through the other one. (EDIT: Should have said, you go through that one)

Wait a minute, I'll think of a riddle. (If I don't post one within ten minutes then feel free to post another one yourselves!)

bungalow 06-04-2006 02:22 PM

No.
You could ask the guard who always tells the truth

"Which door will the other guard tell me is rigged with explosives?"

The truthful guard will tell you the one he is guarding, knowing that the other guard would lie.

Wait....was DROMO right???

But you can't tell them apart.

Don't Run Me Over was right.

Oh yes, I typed that out wrong! You walk through the one he says the other one says is rigged with explosives.

BungalowBill was right, I got it the wrong way around. You ask which one the other guard would say is rigged with explosives and either way, the door which you are told will be the one without explosive. That's because you're either being told a lie truthfully, or being lied to about an honest answer (makes sense?)

Did you already know the answer? Because that was pretty quick...

Edit: No, you were right the first time. You go through the opposite one.
