I don't know what you mean by cope, but you don't think that Alito citing Matthew Hale is evidence that there's a common ideal of a social order being propped up by these people?

As for the Christians then/now thing, yeah. Ok. But I don't know who was arguing that. Maybe I missed it. That seems obvious to me though. That said I live in a pretty Catholic part of the country so maybe I'm inclined to be less shocked.

my problem was that the comment about social order is vague to the point of meaninglessness to me. Yes generally speaking conservatives are more concerned with protecting different hierarchies that exist but that isn't the same as saying issue x is actually motivated by y (in this case abortion and race).

The article you posted basically seems to say Alito was relying heavily on the idea of historical precedent and in doing so cited someone from the past that had all sorts of sexist views. That's not surprising and I don't think that demonstrates much. Especially since I was talking more about the cultural attitude toward it and not the highly autistic legalease bull**** a SC justice will conjure up to defend it.

I do think there's a gender element to the motivation too but it's not about the husband calling the shots in this case. If that were the case abortion would be legal and it would be a man's right to choose.

As for your second paragraph, it seems obvious to me too so that's why I was stating it as the obvious alternative to whatever racial theory. Maybe you did miss the beginning of this conversation but it started with the speculation that it has something to do with increasing birth rates.

It's the definition of irony that John Fetterman looks like a f*cking caveman but he's smarter and more mentally evolved than 99% of American politicians at the moment.

I love him with all my heart and I hope he clubs Oz like a baby seal.
