Why do I even have to explain this? People who are high and driving are just plain idiots.
Wouldn't paying more attention and focusing more than normal be a good thing?

But the point is, you have to make an extra effort to pay attention and stay alert that you wouldn't otherwise need to do if you weren't under the influence of something..

it's not that hard.

Which is about as bad as driving drunk .

What I mean: People who voluntarily take risks on the road they don't have to take, are an awful thing to me.

Not if you do this to solve a concentration problem you shouldn't be having while driving in the first place.

So, because driving is such a complex and difficult task, we need to pay LESS attention to the road in order to be better at driving.

In his defense, this was posted like 6 years ago, and Tommy was around 12-14 years old at the time. Maybe call it inexperience or ignorance, not dumb though.

People voluntarily take risks on the road simply by operating a vehicle at high speeds. Who's to say their reaction time is as fast as everyone else's? Who's to say they don't just suck at driving? I do agree that mind-altering drugs are adding more risk to the equation, but I don't think they're as cut-and-dry as people make them out to be. There are a lot of factors involved. If we are to be completely objective about it, we should be condemning elderly drivers, drivers with low IQ, drivers with poor hand-eye coordination, drivers with poor vision, angry drivers, etc... Truth is, accidents can't be blamed on one thing. While we can attempt to minimize the risk involved, we can never eliminate it. I say all that to say, nobody should be driving in the first place, no matter what, because we are all susceptible to error. But realistically, we know that it really comes down to an acceptable level of risk. And the only way to put one thing above the other when it comes to risk, is to prove it with statistics. So when it comes to what's more risky to drivers, opinions probably aren't the best argument.

Retards and old people can't help the way they are. Not taking drugs before you drive is a perfectly simple and effective way to reduce an unneccesary risk though.

I agree. I wasn't really trying to justify it, but I do think there's a certain level of unused judgment regarding risk reduction, and when someone points out the fact that driving under the influence of a drug is a bad idea, I'd expect them to also point out all the other avoidable bad ideas that many people overlook while on the road.

When you drive a car, you should be driving a car.
I shall not deny that I talk to my fellow passengers or eat an apple or such, but I am always with my mind and eyes on the road.
Apart from that, risking other peoples lives on the road is just well... close to murder when it goes wrong.
