I like beer too, so I have forgotten of this cottonmouth you speak of.

I agree with you that people think that professionals shouldn't do this and that. Professionals are humans as well. I think it's alright. & if you're not getting drug tested, and not doing it around children, before work, then I'd say theres nothing wrong with it. It's just the scandal if you get found out from a higher person in authority really isn't it. I don't have a problem with it anyways.

What do you guys think? The reality is that there are loads of 'professionals' out there who smoke pot but I think if I continued to use marijuana recreationally after I become qualified I would feel so guilty.

Just wondering what other people's opinions are, as it is an interesting topic for discussion.

EDIT: Even though I would never, ever smoke pot before or during work or before or during working with children, I would still completely remove the drug from my activity outside of school, on weekends, everything.

But is what you do outside of work still important in regards to the job you uphold in society? Is using marijuana outside of the professional environment the same as having a few drinks, in your opinion?
Why would you feel like smoking pot makes you a less principled person? Do you drink alcohol? It's a mind-altering drug. So is coffee. Yet most people drink alcohol and coffee without fear of being thought of as an addled, irresponsible, low-life punk. I think the only thing that should factor into it is the illegality. But realistically, most of us regularly break laws of some kind without becoming labeled a social deviant.
The problem is most people let the general media and anti-drug propaganda tell them how to think.
If you're not hurting yourself or others by doing whatever mind-altering substance you do, then apart from breaking a useless law, you shouldn't feel like you're being irresponsible. If you do, then congratulations... the media brain massage worked.

My english teacher smokes weed, and I don't think any less of her but kids give her a bunch of **** for doing it, it might just be because of her robot like personality in the class room or the fact that shes an honors teacher. Like when she misses school (which is pretty much every monday) kids will jokingly say she's probably smoking which is really unoriginal and never funny.

I don't look down on people (including professionals) that smoke pot but if someone like my study hall teacher did it I would think it was weird just because of her personality although I wouldn't really think differently of her but that really applies to a lot people.

She's probably the best teacher i've ever had though.

Some of the best teachers I've ever had either still smoked pot or at least admitted they had and that there was nothing wrong with it.

The whole anti-Marijuana stigma is something that will, mercifully and hopefully, work it's way out of the system of our generation. I honestly don't know anybody my age that thinks it should be kept illegal (who knows anything about it, anyway).

Bill Hicks once said that, "Anything you can do sober, you can do high. It's just that pot makes you realize it's not worth the effort.". True in most situations as far as a "job" is concerned. A career is another matter. So let me ask you this: How quickly would you have realized what you want to do with your life if you hadn't discovered Marijuana? A speculative question maybe, and it's not one you have to answer, but its more or less just something to think about.

And the thing about alcohol vs. pot; although they make a great combination from time to time, pot is not nearly as dangerous or taxing on the health as alcohol. Anybody that knows anything about the two knows that.

Personally, I've never mixed drugs with work, primarily because what I do requires the use and operation of heavy machinery. It's never been a question of legality or ethics, it's always been about safety, which I think is the main thing. If you can go about your business without hurting yourself or others under the influence then more power to you, but I've never been one to chance it.
This also brings up another point. That of personal accountability. Which, sadly, seems a lot to ask of a lot people. But then again, anybody that isn't responsible enough to stay safe in their work needs to find something else to do.

Well that's obvious. I mean, it's in the same category as drinking and driving. If you're operating machinery under the influence of a drug, then it's irresponsible.
But smoking a joint, or drinking a beer in the comfort and safety of your own home after work while not in charge of taking care of children, should certainly not classify someone as an irresponsible person. Legality could be an arguing point, but not ethic or morality. People who make it about ethics or morality are brainwashed.

Haha that's cool. I'm almost 100% sure my old drama teacher smoked pot, especially because he went to Phish concerts and it's kind of a foregone conclusion there

And he was an awesome guy.

As you all know I'm a lifeguard, and my Manager takes us for weekly staff training, including spinal board work (A thing your strapped to and can't move a muscle), so the manager bent down to pick up the board to give us the spinal board training, and a bag of weed fell out his breast pocket. I personally thought he was less of a robot, and a really cool guy after that. It was like he completely relaxed with us and became more of a friend.
