It's so nice to hear that ribbons! Thanks.

You may need some intellectual muscles to tackle the Colin Wilson book! If the cold, distant attitude of his "heroes" is unappealing, then William Trevor's stories should be an antidote: they should leave you feeling warm and fuzzy, if a little sad.

Eyeless in Gaza is the only one of the books I have here at home; if you let me know when you start it, I'd genuinely enjoy reading it along with you at the same time.

Lisna, thanks so much for the tips re: Wilson vs. Trevor. I may begin with Trevor before Wilson as "warm and fuzzy, if a little sad" is more my line - you've actually intrigued me with that description!

I'll definitely let you know when I start Eyeless; it'll be nice to read that simultaneously and have the benefit of your thoughts. I'm currently about a third of the way through Middlemarch (thanks, Marie), so still a long way to go - but perhaps I can do some overlap reading.

4. What is the thing or things that have made you "grow up" or mature in the last, say, ten years?

1. What's your favourite flag, and why?

The Kurdistan Islamic Group flag's hella aesthetic.

2. What was the last TV show you just completed and really enjoyed?

Neon Genesis Evangelion I think. I suck at following through when it comes to finishing shows.

3. If you could live in any other state, or country, where would it be and why?

Washington would be nice but it's full of nazis. Italy seems cool.

4. What is the thing or things that have made you "grow up" or mature in the last, say, ten years?

Quitting my job and abandoning the disgusting world of marketing altogether.

5. What's your favourite shark?

Leopard sharks have cool patterns.

6. Turn on your TV and write down the first three sentences someone says

I don't have a television either but I turned on my neighbour's tv and someone said "what the **** dude? Get out of my house. Now!"

1. What's your favourite flag, and why?
Not just being edgy, aesthethically speaking the Nazi flag is the goat. Followed by the imperial Japanese war flag and then the Soviet hammer and sickle. Authoritarian regimes are great at the aesthetics of propaganda and nationalism encompassed in a powerful symbol. Surprise surprise. Also the Soviet national anthem is by far the best national anthem.

2. What was the last TV show you just completed and really enjoyed?
Rewatched the sopranos.

3. If you could live in any other state, or country, where would it be and why?

NYC if I could afford it. Cause it is a perfect melting pot of every type of human being.

4. What is the thing or things that have made you "grow up" or mature in the last, say, ten years?
facing my addiction

5. What's your favourite shark?
Great white

6. Turn on your TV and write down the first three sentences someone says [/QUOTE]

1. What's your favourite flag, and why?

Bhutan's Eastern dragon flag is great and Wales' Western dragon flag is also awesome while having the benefit of looking like a garish medieval penant, but the Soviet flag has my heart. Other honorable mentions are the South Korean flag and the Kenyan flag for totally non-racist reasons.

2. What was the last TV show you just completed and really enjoyed?

Honestly can't remember the last time I actually completed a TV show but season 2 of The Punisher wasn't out when I saw the first season and it slaps.

3. If you could live in any other state, or country, where would it be and why?

Send me to Denmark I guess. They pay my kind like $20 an hour. Or Hawaii. Beautiful tropical island and if I bought a shack near a volcano it might actually be affordable. Not to mention exciting.

4. What is the thing or things that have made you "grow up" or mature in the last, say, ten years?

Lol

5. What's your favourite shark?

Great White obviously. There isn't a more terrifying beast in existence.

6. Turn on your TV and write down the first three sentences someone says

From the first stirrings of life beneath the water... to the great beasts of the Stone Age... to man taking his first upright steps, you have come far. Now begins your greatest quest: from this early cradle of civilization on towards the stars.
Cast your net wide , oh Trajan, emperor of mighty Rome.

1. What's your favourite flag, and why?
I like the Kiribati flag, with the yellow bird flying over the sun and the blue and white Pacific Ocean waves. It’s a peaceful, positive image.

2. What was the last TV show you just completed and really enjoyed?
The Crown – superb cast and cinematography.

3. If you could live in any other state, or country, where would it be and why?
England. The English countryside, specifically. I’d love to live in a thatched cottage and tend the land walking around in Wellies.

4. What is the thing or things that have made you "grow up" or mature in the last, say, ten years?
I don’t know whether I’ve become that different in the last ten years; but post-divorce was a significant life change and made me realize an inner strength I didn’t always believe I had.

5. What's your favourite shark?
Hammerhead, because it’s so weird.

6. Turn on your TV and write down the first three sentences someone says
“Growing up in this neighborhood was really hard, everyone was just surviving. Channel 13 taught me to escape. So I owe 13 a lot, a lot.”
(Not sure I caught every word – but that’s the gist.)
