I've seen posts from him and I think at one point he mentioned this might be happening. This was months ago, before my sabbatical. I just responded because I didn't want him to think nobody cared or was bothered. I made it very clear I have not been in that situation, thankfully, and hope never to be, but tried to draw on what small experience I had with my pets. I made it very clear too that I did not in any way intend to reduce his situation to that level, and that what I was posting clearly recognised the fact that it was nowhere close to the pain he must feel, but it was the best I could do.

I certainly hope he didn't take offence. But losing your pet can be almost as heartwrenching as losing a family member. Those of you without pets will laugh and not understand, those of you who have pets --- and who have lost them --- will know where I'm coming from.

Our cat cries when he's pooping. Not because he's in pain but because every time he can't see one of us, he starts to cry because he doesn't understand that even though we're not in the room, we're still here. He just sits there pooping and crying unless you poke your head into the room. Then he stops crying and has a good old kitty poopin' time.

Cats are so weird.

I generally don't give a **** about how people look, but I never had any contact with hipsters and I am a little bugged by three of them being in my semester now.
Two look like a hipster-caricature and are dressing exactly alike, down to the colours. It has a creepy Shining vibe to it.
And one dresses pretty normaly, but has thick glasses and a moustache. The hair over his lip hardly grows, but he still somehow manages to twirl its ends so they point up.
I can't ****ing study in this conditions. I want to ask them, whether they know they are hipsters all the time.
