It's really a massive lot of ifs that you're throwing out there though. It'll still be a go to job for many, but to assume that they'll only lag ass from then on? Just as dumb as the system itself. I can see some immediate discouragement because they were already working in the field, but if people were already paying that money to their waiters/esses then they wouldn't mind at all if it was included in the bill.

but nah i dunno cause i've gone to restaurants with built in gratuity and the service seemed fine to me

I'm not saying they're gonna start spitting in your food and calling you a queer without tips, but they're not going to have the drive to go above and beyond. It's not just about getting your food out to you. I like the atmosphere of a restaurant when your server is really making an effort to be friendly and helpful, and how they try to remember your name and make sure you become one of their regulars if you're a repeat customer who tips well. I highly doubt you're going to get that same kind of service if they do away with tipping. It's like getting the girlfriend experience, but without blowjobs.

yea i'm honestly fine without any of that

in fact good service is probably wasted on me as i tip more or less the same regardless of the service so i don't have to be bothered with keeping track of that kind of mundane ****

i try to stay with the 15-20 range regardless

usually, for me, if i'm going out to a place its with at least one other person... so as long as i'm not sitting there forever waiting on a menu... it's fine with me for the waiter/ess to go do whatever it is they need to do and only check in occasionally for refills on drinks and then eventually the check

ya this is how most people do it anyway. tipping doesn't even work like its supposed to. you go, calculate youre standard % and pay that regardless. if a waitor is pure garbage few people will actually not tip as intended, so whats the point. just standardize the whole thing already.

I just don't want the service to be terrible. I don't give a damn about the server knowing my name or that junk. and if you do or get an outstanding server, feel free to tip on top of the included gratuity.
