say you were trapped between two rocks and had to eat your arm to survive

The argument shouldn't be about an animal feeling emotion.

As long as it feels pain, then it matters if it's tortured and slaughtered.

It knows what's going on.

Okay there is a point being missed here. Humans ARE animals.

Sure but there is one major difference between humans and all other animals. Humans understand they will all die one day, animals do not.

Here's what I know:

The body needs protein

Animals are the best source of protein

Most animals we consume depend on humans for their survival

Humans have teeth made for eating animals

There a hundreds of perfectly good reasons for being a vegetarian

Animals are delicious

I've slaughtered a Chicken and it did not know what was going on.

Most animals are slaughtered quickly, painlessly and humanly.

This thread has way more legs then I ever thought it would

Slaughtered yes, but when they are kept to be slaughtered, it is far from painless and humane.

Let's put it this way: There are good people, and bad people. Good people, like you and I (I hope :p:) do not deserve to be tortured or slaughtered. Bad people, like Hitler, Stalin, and Hussein, all deserved to be tortured and slaughtered for the thousands, if not millions that they slaughtered in their day (I hope we can at least agree on that).

Animals are neutral. For the most part, they can do no good or bad in their life, unless they were trained to, and usually the thought of slaughtering trained animals doesn't come up. Now for all the various animals we eat: The only good they can do in their lifetime is to feed a family, no more and no less.

What a pointless arguement, you can't change opinions(hence why I haven't stated mine) so why bother?
