Circumstances for everything. Its a wonderful world. And that cucumber salad looks pretty tasty above, would go great with a dead corpse.

Humans are still considered Apex Predators because we have no true predators of our own. That's why we are at the top of our food chain.

What role humans fill depends. I'd say humans are smart and opportunistic generalists. We're at the top of the food chain when we can, but not always. For example, perhaps you wouldn't on the top of the food chain if you were on you were unarmed and on your own in the mangrove forests of Sundarbar. There are animals that occasionally hunt humans. Crocodiles, tigers, polar bears, komodo dragons, rats, vampire bats ..

We don't have natural predators though that consistently hunt us for food.

I'm not trying to say that we are superior because we might be smarter or more agile.

Well, if you tried to live in a river where there were large wild salt water crocodiles, I'm sure their interest in you would be consistent ;)

That was my whole point. You say we're at the top of the food web. I point out that it's circumstancial. Generally speaking, yes. Bleeding in a pool with piranhas, no.
