Default as per my attention whoriness

so,....it looks like there is much confusion about my musical tastes and other just random savannah factoids,....ergo

let the firein line begin

musical tastes: my musical tastes tend to eb and flow with my moods,....i cycle through genres,.....so while i may listen to one thing, i have some kinda of basic knowledge of lots

currently i'm listenin to alot of lucero, kings of leon, spoon, guy clark, amos lee, widespread panic, scott miller and the commonwealth, ryan adams, driveby truckers, son volt, uncle tupelo, jerry jeff walker, townes van zandt, steve earle, et al
i've been extreamly influcened by the area around me,.....if you have a question about texas music i'm your gal

i enjoy classic rock, for which i blame my parents,......i always fall back to the old standards of the allman brothers and am a hugh neil young fan (thank you dad)

i do not listen to rap, except in the novel form (lil troy and my high school experiance just go together)

jazz makes my head hurt

other than that, fire away

I'm the same Sav, I just go through so many different genres and have favourites of all types, but don't know every last detail of every last band in each genre. Like I've said before, when I'm on my semester break, I am so checking out the Indie, DnB and Prog recommendations.

Ask me about New Zealand music and I'm your girl, see, a whole country!

Yeah I know, there's so many recommendations, and if you get to know your fellow members you can figure out if they have a half decent attitude towards particular music.

NZ music has just as many genres as anywhere else, but over here we really love Dub music such as Salmonella Dub, dDub, Kora and The Black Seeds. Drum and bass is also huge, with noted groups being Concord Dawn, Shapeshifter, State of Mind and Urban Terror Unit. Hip Hop is always pretty popular here due to our Pacific Islander minorities and Maori. We have a new group doing really well called Smashproof, who sound like Kanye West. Mainstream rock music doing well is Midnight Youth and Autozam. Our heavy metal, thrash and blues is a more underground kind of taste, but you can find incredible groups locally at particular bars.

I could kind of go on forever, but let me know if you want to know anymore. Tell me whats the go with Texa's music? Like do they have a big variety of diferent music styles?

I'm the same as both of you girls.

I'm really starting to think I'm feminine.
Of course, having 4 sisters and no brothers might be a clue.

so,....granted there is alot of country music in texas,...i mean, it is,...TEXAS
but the stuff pumpin out of the texas/oklahoma scene right now is so different than the poppy boy band crap commin out of nashville (i doubt that means much to you being from new zealand,...but trust me there is a differerance)

there are also crazy lines drawn in the texas country scene,...most of them will fall in these catagories:

organic jam bandesque stuff:
highly influenced by bands such as the grateful dead and the allman brothers and the band (there was about a year that everyone was ending their shows in 'the weight') these bands often have that throw back feel often in the way their live shows morph from song to song and blur the lines of any kinda of "plans"
example:
stoney larue doin alittle zep (i just like this version)
YouTube - Stoney LaRue and the Arsenals doing "The Ocean" by Led Zeppelin

old school tradional country music:
heart ache, my dog died, lots of waltzes,.......not really my FAV, but i enjoy dancein to it,....lots and lots of fiddle
example
aaron watson
YouTube - Aaron Watson - "Reckless"

jason boland
YouTube - Jason Boland & The Stragglers - Somewhere Down in Texas

nods to the old gaurd:
its all about the story and what they have to say,...some of them may not have the best voices, or the tightest bands,.....but the words are important

example:
ryan bingham
YouTube - Ryan Bingham - Bread And Water: Video - Closed Captioned

todd snider
YouTube - Todd Snider - Talkin' Seattle Grunge Rock Blues

texas country rock:
they are just way louder than everyone else

example:
cross candian ragweed
YouTube - Cross Canadian Ragweed - Lighthouse Keeper

reckless kelly
YouTube - Reckless Kelly - Crazy Eddie's Last Hurrah (Live)

the old gaurd:
currently my favorite,....singer song writers,.....they, of all people, capture the true meanin of what it means to be texan,.....its they way they look at life, and translate it to us through their words,.....

guy clark
YouTube - GUY CLARK - LA FREEWAY

jerry jeff walker
YouTube - Jerry Jeff Walker Up Against The Wall Redneck Mother

robert earl keen
YouTube - The Road Goes on Forever by Robert Earl Keen Jr

i'll add more to this later

I can't give country any love. It's not that I haven't heard enough of it, I mean, look at where I'm from. But it just doesn't do it for me.

thats understandable,...alot of people cant,....
but for me, it is very much of who i am,.....

there is just something about idlein down a tree lined dirt road, with your truck in 4 low so that it pulls you, air conditioning as high as it will go, windows down, drinkin stolen beer (the country club is full of unattended coolers) and singin old robert earl keen songs talkin about the exact thing you are doin at the top of your lungs

Good to see some country music get some love.
And good to see Veridical finally admit that he's a woman.
But yeah, attn: whore.

I kid.
