Going back to this "bullying" mentality Big3 spoke of in the OP, I think bullying only works if you let it. I got bullied a lot initially, till I started fighting back, and by fighting back I mean getting in on the joke, laughing at myself, not taking life and this place so seriously. It took a long time before I could make or respond to a joke about my mother, who's been dead over a quarter of a century now, but now it doesn't bother me. Personally though, I don't use that experience to bully newbies, not at all. I think once you get to know the peculiar humour of some of the members here (myself included) you can see that it is basically a friendly place. And if you say otherwise I'll kick your head in. :p:

What I'm saying is that in Danish, that's one million.
Don't ask me why. That's just one area where we mysteriously don't conform to European standards.

I like short women, but that goes without saying when I'm such a Tom Cruise sized midget myself.
I still have Maria Sharapova on my desktop wallpaper and she's 18 cm taller than me. I find her intimidating.

This also plays into the part where Big3 was talking about most members being vaginas.

Paedantic Basterd 08-23-2017 02:55 PM

Eh, I never had a problem integrating here or getting bullied and I'm basically the softest piece of cheese of a human you could meet. That said, a lot of you are jerks, I just ignore it. ;)

Yes, this is true. Until you learn to roll with the punches and start throwing them yourself (and I'm aware of the irony, thank you) this place can really seem very intimidating and unfriendly. But as someone once said, that's really more of a "you problem": members, especially newbies, need to look around and see how people act and react without crying at the first thing they deem an insult, or an attack, which most of us by now would shrug off. Remember how Exo used to greet every newb (almost)?

For me, most of my friends and favourite posters here have disappeared. There are a lot of new people I like or at least don't hate, but what they bring to the table is naturally different, so part of the appeal is lost for good.

I feel the exact same way. I was going through this thread and I saw a lot of old posters that I use to enjoy, but time moves on and things change. One thing that has changed though is how slow the forum moves compared to 7 years ago.

I think you're probably right about this, but it's hard to say why things dropped off. It's certainly less dramatic than it used to be, which might be related to the activity, but I also feel like the constructive discussion threads were more active at the time as well.

Or maybe they weren't active and I just have all these memories of trying to boost activity as a mod.

We also use commas for that in Germany.
Pi would be 3,14...

I've always liked Germany.

I'm not blonde, but I've been told my eyes are incredibly blue. I'm like 90% "Aryan" but that just proves how daft the whole idea was. I'm not exactly intellectually or physically superior to anyone

Germany did kind of invade us back then, but that's all water under the bridge. Your friendly tourists and good beer more than make up for it!

Frownland 08-23-2017 03:17 PM

Germany is so adorable with how great it thinks its beers are.

I've had a large variety of beers from small German countryside breweries and some of it has been really good.

Frownland 08-23-2017 03:22 PM

They waste all their time on beers for children (meaning that they're either too weak or too sweet).

MicShazam 08-23-2017 03:25 PM

They tend to lie around 4-5,5%, which is normal for a pils style beer. I certainly remember French beer going a lot higher, tending to lie around 6,5-10% on average.

Frownland 08-23-2017 03:27 PM

American strong ales>>>>>sex

Genuinely.

Can't say I've had any French beers. I've tried plenty of German ones because of their notoriety though.

MicShazam 08-23-2017 03:31 PM

I'm very into various dark beers myself. The only one I love that I'm sure is American is Seattle Coffee Stout. That's some good stuff.

I think it's probably about 50/50

MicShazam 08-23-2017 03:38 PM

It seems like there's a core of ~15 individuals here that account for 99% of the posts, so it's no wonder that there can't be ind depth discussions of new subjects related to music going on 24/7. It seems sort of on and off. Some days, it seems like almost every post is in the lounge section.

I personally really value a thread like the Album Club, since it will generate something new to discuss and have an opinion about every single week.
It would be nice with more long running quality threads, but then, why don't I make some myself instead of whining.

I always find it humorous to read what people thought the dominant genres on the board were over the years. Probably around when I joined indie was king, and it's still got a presence, but not nearly what it used to. Then metal took over, then it died, other **** came and went probably, and now we sit on a site of music snobs who won't shut up about trash pop.

MicShazam 08-23-2017 03:43 PM

Probably for the best.

I think it's slowed down a lot here too. For example, 3 dudes talking about Ke$ha where only one is super into them is enough to turn the site into "a site of music snobs who won't shut up about trash pop." You needed more clout than that when I joined.

Let's see, me, Goofle, Qwerty, DJ, mindfulness apparently, and I'm sure I could think of a few more who are heavily into pop.

MicShazam 08-23-2017 03:48 PM

I bought a few Kylie Minogue albums recently so maybe I ½ qualify. At least I'm not a snob. Not with the so-called mom tastes I'm developing.

You and Goofle count. Trashy pop is only a small protion of what Qwertyy listens to and reps. DJ doesn't even talk about music so he doesn't count. And mindfulness doesn't even talk.

I'm heavily into a few pop albums so it's probably me you were thinking of huh.

I don't know if it was specific genres being popular as much as big albums in those genres. I remember in 2010 the albums that I remember inspired the most discussion on the forum were My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, High Violet, The Suburbs, and Innerspeaker.

I do agree that that trashy pop is what seems to drive the majority of the music discussion.

I feel like we don't have albums that touch the whole MB consciousness like that anymore, for better or worse.
