I've been to Beijing and it is NOT as crowded as it would seem. In the 12ish days I was there, the traffic was minimal, no joke. Everyone rides bikes, and have their own designated bike lane thats the size of the road. I could believe this, though. But I don't think it has much to do with population. I found Glasgow city centre to be more crowded than Beijing to be honest.
