We have bigger alligators though...

Yep. And honestly a lot of the time when people talk about the east coast they're actually referring to the northeast anyway. So pretty far from the Gulf of Mexico.

Well that would be ignorant of a lot of people then.

Not as ignorant as equating the Gulf of Mexico with New England.

the war with the iraq, such as, because people don't have maps?

That's why the terms northeast and southeast exist, to distinguish the two. If you're going to only consider one part, then it'd be wise to say so.

And there are some pretty distinctions between northwest and southwest, ask any san franciscan and they'll be happy to tell you in what ways they are superior to their angelo counterparts. :thumb:

Plus, climate and terrain and stuff is pretty big difference between the two. Southern is more tropical and warm consistently, including some arid regions, while northern is more rainy and has a lot of forests.

I didn't invent the language, I just speak it. All I'm saying is, for example, if you hear someone talking about east coast rappers, they probably aren't talking about rappers from Atlanta.

Thanks for the lesson. Have I mentioned that I used to live in California?

Well I must be behind on the language, since it tripped me up.

And I have no problems with geography, I simply thought that the oil spill had made it's way around Florida and up the east coast.

I just re-read every post of yours in this conversation we had and none of them mentioned you lived in California.

You thought it went around Florida and all the way up to Boston, where Big3 lives? Man that sure would be one hell of an oil spill.

Wow. Well would be a hell of an oil spill too. You may want to consider paying more attention to the news and/or brushing up on your geography. Just a thought.

I know my geography fine. Judging how far an oil spill will travel requires a hell of a lot more knowledge and information then which state borders what. And I was in high school when that happened. How closely were you following the news in high school?

As did I in the post before the one you quoted, I just forgot to past tense it the second time.

Not really. With what you're talking about I would say all it takes is a basic understanding of geography.

Closely enough that I would have known basic details about the biggest news story in the country.

Maybe he's just referring to the Earl Gray we've still got floating around in the Harbor.

Then I guess I'm just stupid, because I was sure that the rate at which water flows, which directions it flows in, and how oil moves through water would all factor in. Not to mention weather at the time and, possibly, natural disasters that could speed up it's travel.

Jeebus. How about just considering the size of the area in question first?

4) I've lived in the Midwest my whole life and it has a comforting feeling about it.

I like this thread. It's like a meandering conversation that has no particular topic at all! Is there already a thread like this? A rambling thread? This may be the greatest thread at MusicBanter YET! Much better than that tosser thread. ;)

So, V&F, you've actually hit on one thing I like about the Midwest (it has a comforting feeling), and one thing I *don't* like: the FOOTBALL!

I just can't figure out why anyone cares who wins, yet football is HUGE here. You're right about that. Stadiums fill with screaming people and there are massive pre-game tailgating parties with grilling and beer.

The best part about football games is when I go and sit in the home team side, and then cheer for the opposition. Kinda annoys the people...maybe they sense I'm mocking them. Mostly, football just makes me feel like an alien visiting a strange planet.

But it is kind of exhilarating to hear the massive crowd shouting like a giant animal from halfway across a city. I feel like I'm in ancient Rome....

Here are some pictures of Iowa State University and University of Iowa tailgating before or during football games:

That's probably almost as fun for them as it is for you when you're sitting in a restaurant eating a salad and the family next to you orders six veal cutlets and a suckling pig. Great lesson for the kids; if you don't like/understand something, ridicule it and all those who are trying to enjoy it.

Idiotic comments aside, going to the University of Iowa, Univeristy of Wisconsin-Madison, Northwestern, Illinois, or Indiana to watch a football game is always one hell of a good time. Plenty of beer and food to go around, coupled with a large amount of knowledgeable, blue collar fans who are more than willing to treat complete strangers like family.

Dirty 10-18-2010 11:31 PM

Tailgating is the best part about college football. Penn State tailgates are always a ton of fun. Just everyone getting drunk and jammin to music. I really couldn't care less about the actual game, especially cause PSU sucks right now
