no but seriously...what's Walmart? is it a mart that sells walls or something?

Found the cable. Going to try to make a video and hopefully I'll be able to post it (I'm technologically handicapped :D). I was able to load a picture of myself on my User CP/profile, so maybe there's a shred of hope...

s_k 03-28-2011 03:06 PM

nice :)

Here's my workspace:

I'll post more pictures when I have some time.

s_k 03-28-2011 03:20 PM

I wouldn't advise you putting your PC (and is that a playstation?) next to your speakers because of magnetic radiation and vibration from playing (loud) music :)

sidewinder 03-28-2011 04:25 PM

I finally ordered some rugs for my crib, maybe I'll post some pics after I get them in place. Of course I'm still lacking wall decorations...sigh. And I've been there about 7 months.

I rarely ever use my stereo. It's mostly there for show. I have been needing to reorganize it all though. I want to put my PS3 more to the left of my desk so it's not so in your face. The speaker might stay there. But I know, I don't use my stereo and my PS3 at the same time.

s_k 03-28-2011 05:41 PM

how do you listen to music then?

Key 03-28-2011 05:42 PM

I'm usually working on my computer, so I have my iTunes open. Or I listen to my iPod when I go for walks.

s_k 03-28-2011 06:38 PM

Laptopspeakers? *shivers* :D.

Key 03-28-2011 08:59 PM

Naw, my main computer has good sound. My laptop doesn't have very good speakers.

s_k 03-29-2011 05:18 AM

Ah, good :).

Nice room man! I like that rug! I'm the process of looking for a good rug for my office/studio in my new house and astounded by how expensive they are.

That's a nice rug. I also like the coffee table!

s_k 04-01-2011 06:00 PM

Mr. Sidewinder; I dig your style.

EvilChuck 04-01-2011 06:33 PM

Right, here it is. Ladies form an orderly queue.

This is a large amount of my CD collection. I had it all on shelves, but they looked like they were going to collapse so I put it all on the floor instead.

I like cartoons, and I like DVD boxsets. This just made sense to me.

Video games and some more DVDs. Mostly comedy films and stand up, with some regular films and some wrestling DVDs as well.

My pride and joy. My TV, PS3, Xbox 360 setup (with the classic PS2, still working after 11 years.... Microsoft, thats how you make a console)

Finally, this is where the magic happens (not really, its clearly a single mattress on the floor, another case of broken things not being replaced. The slats down the middle of my bed snapped, and the bed became a pit. It was easier to just put it on the floor)

This is all well and good, but I am in discussion with my mum to take the master bedroom in the house soon. I just need some finance to do what needs doing, and then this whole series of photos is redundant because I'll have a new room!!

s_k 04-01-2011 06:36 PM

Hahaha, considering the state it doesn't even look that bad :D.

Maybe the vibration thing could be a factor, but the magnetic thing? lol... dude that's some oldschool right there. Unless the guy is using floppies, he doesn't have to worry about his hard drive or anything. You could plop a magnet right onto a hard drive case and it won't do anything. It takes quite a bit of magnetic force to change the polarity of any given point on a magnetic drive. That's why when you see those movies where someone runs a big magnet across their drives like a "degausser" before they speed away being chased by the FBI, if you're not laughing at the inaccuracy, then that movie was made for you.

I'm unsure about any other components. I can speak from experience that I have no issues with my 2 large studio monitors with 8" subwoofer drivers being positioned not 2 inches from either side of my LCD monitors, and I never had any issues with my PC when it was right next to one of them. Dunno about the speakers in question, but mine can put out some db, and I never had any issues with them vibrating anything.

Thanks. I thought my room was similar to s_k's tbh, except instead of collecting old audio equipment and cool stuff, I have mismatched and broken furniture.

This bedroom is a temporary one because I'm getting a new one built for me, and I'm aware that it's decorated like a seven year old's room. I had the option to change the decor a year ago but I've gotten too comfortable with the way it is. I originally had christmas lights up but mom said that it was gaudy and she made me take them down :/

Also, I never, ever, ever, ever put the heat on in my room so don't worry about the wires in the back

Once I have the new bedroom built for me, I'm painting everything black and putting in a lot of glowy stuff and disco lights and making it look surreal

That`s certainly an easy, minimal style, to stack it all on the floor - though I`m not sure how you pull out a cd from the bottom of a pile.
All my cds would make about two of your eleven stacks, I should think, plus another pile for vinyl albums.

EvilChuck 04-01-2011 07:30 PM

I have to take off the ones from on top. It doesnt take too long lol

Slayer fans will recognise the stack in the 5th collumn from the right as well \m/

Well I'm not worried about the hard drive, but as far as I'm concerned it somehow doesn't seem like a good idea to put a magnet close to your computer. Not sure why though. So you may be right.

A subwoofer is a single woofer that's made to produce only the lowest of low tones. If it's embedded in your monitors, it's just a woofer :).
I don't think LCD monitors give a crap about electromagnetic radiation. The time monitors turned purple and green when you put a magnet next to them is long gone (fortunately, I love me flatscreens). But as far as vibrations go... Well I can't really remember your picture that well, but I remember you having your speakers on stands or something? I'm not sure. I hope they are.
It really helps improve your sound if you put your speakers on decent stands. Preferrably on the floor. My speakers in my 'studio' are on the floor, I made holes through my table. They are on very heavy stands made of stone :D.
When you put them on your table, your whole table will resonate and everything from lower midrange to sub-bass will be influenced. When you mount them on the wall, you will loose most of your lower frequencies.
You probably already knew that, but I felt like I should point it out nonetheless. You never know who reads this :).

I can tell for sure that hard drives are sensitive to vibrations. I know a local drive-in DJ who has his hard drives on cushions because the vibration of the music he plays caused them to break down all the time.

Altough a lot of Ghz's may be welcome, they are nothing without a decent video card. But hey, you'll need a desktop computer for that too. So what holds you back? :).

I'm trying to find something that has something to do with heating and wires. But I cannot. Explain. And while you explain that, explain the radio with the seperate speakers. It looks interesting.

Yeah it took me forever to find what I wanted that wasn't tooooo expensive. Surprisingly I got this one and my bedroom rug from Crate & Barrel and they were both very reasonably priced, compared to what I was seeing elsewhere. $900 for both pre-tax. I was looking at another single shag rug elsewhere that was $900 on its own...then I would have had to buy a bedroom rug on top of that. C&B saved the day.

The coffee table is a hand-me-down from my sister, I've had it for over 10 years. It's simple and clean, but I otherwise don't particularly like it. I'll probably replace it soon, something more solid.

Well, I've always been taught that heaters and electronics don't mix well. My stepfather told me that no electronic should ever be placed near a heater. it usually gets so cold in canada that we have to crank the heat way up, so the effect is even worse.

Oh, and the separate speakers, I use for everything. That radio you see is a shortwave radio, and sometimes the signals are a little scrambled so I just have the speakers as a just in case if I want to make it a little louder

I mainly use the speakers for my computer and MP3 player, though.

s_k I swear to God you need to calm down the double posting. Use the edit button woman!

Okay so the reason I don't have a desktop is because I have no moola. Once I gets me some, I'll hook myself up.

s_k 04-02-2011 07:39 AM

Moola? What the...
It's hard enough for me to read English. Thank god for google
I am watching the double posting, but I came back to this topic two seperate times.
And I don't like that edit function. It doesn't work the way I work. As always...

And oh, Vanillaaaaa?
Freebase Dali did a double post in the Mac or PC topic yesterday. Oh yes he did. Now go punish him :D :D

Scarlett O'Hara 04-02-2011 07:42 AM

It's just slang for money.

It's alright occasionally but it takes so much space if people are double/triple posting when it's far easier to multi-quote or edit. :D
