I don't think you can fairly generalize about entire groups of people. It's already been said multiple times throughout the thread but there's plenty of men and women who take themselves too seriously within a variety of different circumstances/scenarios.
I think it's less to do with gender and more to do with personality and until we can scientifically figure out exactly how a person becomes who they are we'll never be able to fully explain why some people are one way and others are another. Nature vs. Nurture and all that are still heavily debated in psychology and, from what little I know of the subject, it seems like it's a mix of both. Perhaps ultra-serious people had very strict parents and grew up around a lot of very disciplined, hard-headed people and goofballs experienced the opposite or rejected what they came up around (and who knows why they might've done that!?). I like to think time will tell and one day we as a species will decide to stop ****ing each other over and giving each other such a hard time over even the pettiest bull****. But then, wouldn't life become kinda boring and predictable? Conflict produces a lot of interesting things... I'm goin off topic but y'all get my meaning.
