Some do, though I find it tends to be the really insecure ones who are actually hiding their true personalities that do take themselves too seriously. I'm talking the goofy acting girls that play cool when they are in public, because they want to give off a certain vibe and impression. There is nothing wrong with that at first, you only get one chance to make a first impression and you dont want to make a bad one. But some girls only let their true self out around a chosen few people who they feel really close to, and then complain that no one outside this small group of people really likes them for who they are (even though they NEVER show people who they really are).

Vanilla, this line basically describes me, and also the EXACT type of thing I look for in a girl:

Quote:
I can be an attention whore but generally I love being silly and make my friends and family laugh.
The highlighted part is probably the most important thing I look for, it means that when I act like an ass in public my girlfriend isnt going to be ashamed or embarrassed by me, because she is likely to do the same. You stay as you are .

back to the topic:-

my fiancee doesn't really take herself that much seriously, in fact she's quite childish

on the other hand, she's obsessed with her weight and lost youth

I don't think it's just a female thing though. I think it can easily be applied to men as well. It's really a problem with society nowadays. Majority of people are afraid to be themselves for fear of being rejected by society's standards. There is also a wanting for people to fit in regardless of if they view themselves as fitting in or not it still happens.

This problem alone doesn't belong to women but maybe you just notice it more in women where as I notice it more in men but it's pretty equal.

The last part of your post talking about how women are sexualized. Men are sexualized as well but of course not as much as women. There is also this annoying thing that I hate to see in movies/tv shows. The whole ugly average joe type guy gets the hot babe as a girlfriend or wife. They never show it the other way around or barely I should say.

oh yeah I almost forgot to mention that you need to get some new friends that aren't as uptight. I too like to be silly in public at times.

I remember one time I was at the mall and I needed to pee really badly so I put my hand between my legs and started yelling "I have a potty emergency" just like Wakko from the Animaniacs and my friend was pulling me towards the bathroom holding my hand like a little kid. It was hilarious.

Another time I was at the mall and asking random people if they like Tom Jones. After the younger one are like who? I started doing the carlton dance and singing "it's not unusual to be loved by anyone"

I dont think its any worse now. If anything its far easier to be yourself. Look at the 50's, thats proof enough how much we improved.

Both males and females take themselves too seriously.

In general yeh I think so.

More women might be repulsed by bawdy humour as well. Also some women might be more humorous among themselves than in mixed company.

That's seems a very big generalisation and the fact that someone is able to make fun of themselves in public speaks for itself imo.

that's because they're paid to do it, just because other people find you funny doesn't mean you take yourself any less seriously

edit - they might be taking the whole art of comedy seriously as it is
