He played on Charlie Haden's Liberation Music Orchestra which I consider to be one of the very greatest music recordings of all time. He also played with Don Cherry, including Complete Communion, which is a free jazz cornerstone.

Still, the head of the music department liked my work and offered that I lecture at the college and submit my 5'50" of Pop work as my thesis, so it wasn't entirely for naught. The consult was certainly eye-opening and I'm grateful that I could meet the legend before his passing.
