I don't think he's known very well over there. I actually only know him because of his huge part in the New Year's celebrations every year. In NYC, he was just really famous.

It's going to be so weird knowing he won't be there this New Year and not having him as part of the countdown.

He was a Radio and Television/Game Show personality, so I think that's where it mostly came in. But, I mean, that was before anything I can recall!

That was a long response, but I don't even know if it's a big deal to people not near NYC like me. It might just be those who watch that specific channel for the countdown, you know?

Well, I recognised the name, thought he was some old American actor until I went back and read Psy-Fi`s RIP post.
So if you`re conducting a survey about how much Brits know about DC, put me down in the box marked "Effectively Nothing".

He's most famous for hosting American Bandstand for many, many years.

RIP Jim Marshall

He died April 5 2012. Everyone knows him, he created marshall amps which revolutionized everything about rock and roll. Some could even say he created rock and roll. He is truly one of the greats up there with Leo Fender and Les Paul.

RIP Adam Yauch of the Beastie Boys. I remember bumping Brass Monkey in my ****ty high school car. This one hits hard.

I just posted this in the Beastie Boys thread. Listening to 'Check Your Head' right now.

Yeah, this one hurts. Beastie Boys are easily one of my favorite groups.

RIP MCA

Probably the group i've seen live the most. I went to every Beasties tour since my first, the Pauls boutique tour. I can't recall ever seeing a more eclectic show. Punk rock, rap, jazz, spoken word, rock n roll, this is about as big a loss as i can feel musically.

Very sad news indeed. Best night out I have ever had was a fancy dress party where me and two other friends dressed up in the style of the "Intergalactic" video.

Thanks for the many great memories Adam, and Rest In Peace.

oh fucking hell

The Beastie Boys were my second intro to hip-hop, after Run DMC
